I’d much prefer a LHH OF with some flaws like Clifford I don’t disagree but the Sox clearly think there’s a market inefficiency with formerly big prospects who have seen their stock plummet. Vientos was really good most of last year. Between him and Vargas, you hope one of them becomes a legit starter in a few years.

Actually, I guess both.

Even Mets fans agree he is more of 1B or even DH type.

July 27, 2025Jul 27 It would be funny if the bogus Sosa trade to the Mets became real, as I could see him being included with Robert.
July 27, 2025Jul 27 He’s out again today. So tired of him, god forbid he run hard and not get injured during a season.

I also think power is a massive need for us. I’m just not convinced Vientos is the answer. Part of that is the player, part of it is the fit. I get Robert is a flawed asset, but I’d prefer going in a different direction when trading him.

His success last year was driven by a 92 percentile barrel rate, which has fallen off a cliff. Can he get back to that elite level? To me, his 2024 season feels like a total outlier. Maybe there is some underlying issue that can be corrected, but I am not excited about acquiring a project 1B / DH type who has four years of control left and will further limit our flexibility in the infield. Robert isn’t bringing in anything that doesn’t have massive warts. He is just as much of a bum.
July 27, 2025Jul 27 I wonder if talks with teams have progressed enough where the Sox have agreed to hold Robert out until a deal is done (rather than it being a more serious injury).

I'm not sure id ever had considered him a big prospect - certainly not at Vargas level.

Can someone actually show me how this is a "mark deficiency?" Id rather keep Robert than trade him for Vientos.
