Slater and Tauchman signed for a combined $4 million.  Hays signed for $5 million.  Unfortunately, as Sox GM’s have not figured out over the years — quantity is not better than quality.

Of course, playing for Terry Francona and joining an exciting young/aggressive team with Elly de la Cruz as the centerpiece probably played a large role as well.

The White Sox/Rockies/Marlins are always going to be the very last choice for any FA these days.

 

What would be more interesting would be recordings of all those agents' phones when Getz called expressing an interest on behalf of the White Sox, what the most common responses/replies are to these queries.

Why did Ishbia agree to live in the Chicago area when he could live anywhere and why are the Sox an organization he invested in? You think he likes the South side folks? Or is it really just all about the money to him?

You keep saying this, but we are owned by a guy who literally had a stadium built for him in Tampa just in case he didn't get bribed with a free new stadium in Chicago... and is seemingly doing is again.

Come on, you know his religious faith is irrelevant.  Ishbia had a choice of Chicago or Detroit? Is that why he and his brother are owners of Phoenix basketball franchises or why this guy was initially probing the Minnesota Twins organization for a possible takeover. It's funny how people often project things on other people, especially the famous and wealthy inc. sports figures, musicians, etc. Then when if and you get to meet them or know them, your expectations often fall well short.

I'd be very happy to take Mr. Applegate (look it up) as the new Sox owner if that is what it takes to turn this incompetent, dysfunctional and inept franchise around.

Very kind of you to say so.

Part of it is because the "spirit" (for wont of a better word) has basically been beat out of me. 

We can discuss, argue about minute aspects of the franchise...trades, injuries, prospects et al but the absolute bottom line is this, and everyone here knows it...

Until JR leaves either standing on his feet or on a slab this franchise is going nowhere, period...full stop...end of story. 

Until that happens if you think about it nothing else really matters does it? 

Given the situation (and the almost assured lockout right after the 2026 season) I may try to bring back more historical items like This Day In White Sox History or interviews, something that reminds the fans who are left of better days.

Lip has class and the ability to look at the bottom line. He knows the team reeks. Some of us get excited when it looks like the team might be better than last year. In reality we should be Lip-like and realize when all is done the team will have about 45-60 wins.

Greg, I think 98.9% of the board would probably agree with that sentiment...especially with the recent news that Martin Perez might end up missing all of the season (for surgery), when all is said and done.

Also, Shane Smith only pitched 94 innings last year...so they're going to have to cap his innings increase somewhere in the 130-150 IP area, so he might end up getting "babied along" like Garrett Crochet down the stretch (no more than 3-4 innings per start the final two months.)

I'm thinking as the season progresses our "starters" are gonna go 3 innings max. If ever a team screamed for "openers" it's the 2025 White Sox.

Anything is possible.

Iriarte or Clevinger or Nastrini would probably pitch that amount or less simply because they suck so bad.

With Shane Smith, it will be more deliberate/intentional.

Cannon and Martin are what they are, mostly forgettable 4th/5th starters who can/will eat as many innings as possible per start.
