And that's an 8-0 WHITE SOX WINNER

I really hope the guy succeeds.  As of right now that deal is a nuclear falllout of a disaster unless Vargas turns out to be a useable player.  It would be nice to get at least a guy who you can roster without needing to keep adding old timey utility players to play instead.  If this thing is ever going to happen, we need to start winning in the minutia of these kinds of deals, because we literally have one major asset left to cash in, and if that is only if Robert starts to act like Luis Robert.

That deal was definitely a player short with Kopech being involved. But it's obvious no one was going to give up a ton for Erick Fedde, a back end rotation guy having a really nice first half. Vargas was clearly the most interesting offensive piece they were offered in return.

If Vargas can even be a just a meh starter putting up 6-8 WAR over his Sox tenure, the deal was a win for the Sox. Still a very big if. But you also have two very decent premium position prospects as well, which we all know the Sox need in spades. "Fallout disaster" seems to be reach.

As with with declaring doom for Vargas, i wouldn't declare that trade a unclear fallout yet. Check put Perez in minors.

Not saying he is definitely going to a star just like Vargas but I wouldn't write it off yet. We haven't even seen albertus yet.

Nice to see Vargas keep hitting despite being a guaranteed bust and out of baseball in two years or whatever premature nonsense was being spewed here.

Maybe just maybe he's not a disgrace to baseball and his dog shouldn't be shot.

I mean can we get a few weeks of decency before we start taking victory laps?

Uh…

Don’t get me wrong, he could still easily end up being a bust and out of baseball in a few years.

The victoriest of all laps!

It was never that thought  Fedde is a solid pitcher signed for 1.5 seasons; Kopech had a higher ceiling, but as a reliever, also for 1,5 more seasons.  At that time, the trade looked like a waste:  but the cost was opportunity cost, and that's not a nuclear fallout.
It was nowhere near the level of arrogance of, say,  an org with a thin farm trading 4 young players to rent  Jeff Samardzija for a season.

At this point, further trades should be or guys in the lower minors with upside.  I'd break my vows of no Dodgers/pass-along prospects if the Sox could get for Robert the 2 guys the Cubs traded the Dodgers for Bush.

Semien won an MVP and Bassitt still is Top Fifteen MLB pitching fWAR all these year later.

Dodgers burned through his options because he was continually bad after getting multiple opportunities. Let's not pretend that he hasn't gotten ample opportunity. Developement isn't linear so of course he could sustain this, but his track record suggests otherwise.

Actually, his track record suggests that he can get better over time. You have a player who has gone into the offseason, and conditioned himself in accordance with team recommendations. He's worked on his fielding, and then when he started in a slump, made a setup change, and followed it through to payoff. Oh, and no "injuries". Everybody screams about how Yoan didn't want to play baseball, but you have a guy who seems to want to play the game, and is doing everything possible to succeed and stay on the field.

No, Vargas isn't going to be a HOFer. He's not going to be promoted from AAA and dominate. But he does look like a guy, like another famous, recent 1B on the Sox, who had a couple of false starts before he got to the Sox and put it all together.

Dude does a happy dance over every injury so he can rejoice at how righteous he is to blame JR for injuries and call it karma.

Robert staying healthy is the biggest thing for this organization now... except for maybe the Big 3 pitchers and Braden/Teel.

If he nets a very nice return, Shane Smith and those acquired prospects help cancel out Colson's fall off a cliff.

Colson can cancel his own fall by listening to the Sox' coaches, and telling his agency coaches to stop meddling.

True stars would never in million years blame anyone but themselves.

Beckham Konerko and Quentin expressed this idea quite consistently,  about being their own worst enemies mentally/psychologically.  Almost like battling personal demons.

Vargas is at 713 career MLB plate appearances.  That is over a year of PA’s.  His career line is currently:

.183 / .280 / .316 / .596

I hope to see you back here in a couple months and we can reassess.

It's weird how, when a player does well 2 years ago, it's not applicable, but when they do bad 2 years ago, it's recent, and must be spoken for.
