Ouch: Meidroth hit in head with pop up

Featured Replies

I can only remember one time in baseball history when a player got plunked on the top of the head on a fly ball or pop up. Not a line smash or a ball that takes a wicked hop off the turf but a simple pop/fly. Mine is Jose Canseco who saw a ball go off the top of his head over the RF fence for a homer.

Do u think anybody has the info whether those two instances are the only two in baseball history a guy has seen a pop or fly ball plop straight down on his head? p.s. It didn't even seem like it hurt Meidroth at all? You'd think it'd leave a mark. Does Elias know?

I still think he's one of the Sox better hitters.

"You simply don't go 19 months without winning in Kansas City on accident.

For the first seven innings Tuesday night, the Royals' turbo-aggressive approach against Sean Burke didn't put the White Sox into the sort of deficit they've grown used to facing at Kauffman Stadium. No matter, as after a slapped Josh Rojas RBI single put the White Sox up 3-1 in the eighth, larger forces simply sucked both teams into their natural landing place like a tractor beam."   soxmachine.com James Fegan

White Sox now 2-12 against the AL Central...and a 45-117 pace (4 game improvement).

It happened to Luis Robert a few years ago running in on a ball.  It happens, it isn’t a unicorn event

Ron LeFlore took one off his head once with the White Sox for a 4 base error. Knocked him a little silly.

There’s a Mr. Perfect, Curt Hennig, story in which a softball (or baseball) bounced off his head, but still landed in his mitt because, well, perfect. So there’s that, Greg.

Major league players can look like little leaguers at times. You just don't want it happening in the ninth inning.

A soft infield popup like that should be caught 100% of the time

Idk, infield flies are worse. My question is.... is this worse than the Beckham fail to lose the game on the infield fly??

It’s nothing a professional should do of course but the ball Beckham messed up is a hard catch too.  He was basically coming in on the ball just like Robert, and those balls straight up between the pitcher and catcher just seem to wander as they are coming down.  But, that’s why they call them errors

Beckham's was a team fail, for sure. This one was just on Chase and it's pretty inexcusable, but yes it happens.

In Baltimore Bill Melton lost a pop up around foul ground at third base, it hit him in the face and broke his nose.

No one is bringing up the famous one.  Didn't Jose Canseco have one bounce off his head for a home run (a double)?

It’s in the first post, that was Gregs that he recalled

The Beckham play was worse imo because it involved the entire IF basically refusing to take charge and then you had one guy trying to do too much. Moment was sadly too big for them. This play was just a physical mistake, still an awful one at the MLB level but yea it happens.

Also, remember this one?
