With Meidroth, Elko, Quero to go with Vaughn and Robert who are underachieving? Beni's absence hurts a lot. But with Beni and those guys? Our offense is decent IMO.

Not trolling. Every one of those guys I mentioned except Robert and Vaughn can hit and those two need to hit. The lineup is not that bad. Last year with DeJong and Co. it was lousy.

Eh. The young guys you want to see succeed (Meidroth, Vargas, Edgar) are succeeding for the most part. What is killing this lineup is Vaughn and Robert. If those two were even...slightly below average it'd look so much better.

Only some kind of miracle could change it.
Back in the Go Go years, the Sox were more popular and I think the Sox were more popular in the first 2 decades of the 20th century leading the Majors in attendance more than a few times while winning 2 World Series but of course the franchise took a beating after the Black Sox scandal.
When Reinsdorf took over in 1981 the metro area was just about equally divided and the Sox were the first Chicago team to draw 2 million in 1983 and were the darlings of the area. I have always thought that things really started to change when the Cubs came out of nowhere and won the 1984 division while the Sox floundered that year. The Tribune buying the Cubs and Harry Caray moving to the Northside had huge implications along with WGN becoming a Superstation. Meanwhile with one blunder after another by Reinsdorf has seen the fan base shrink and shrink and I have no idea what the last 3 years are doing to it.

Sox were so lucky in early 50's. They traded for Fox, Pierce and then Minoso 2 years later. Without those 3 gifts from heaven, Sox would have been long gone and there would be no SoxTalk.

Also trades for Lollar who won a few Gold Gloves and Jungle Jim.

The World Series starting lineup in 1959 had only 2 home grown products in Aparicio and Landis however we had some great prospects in Callison, Cash, Battey, Romano and Mincher who Veeck all traded away before the 1960 season, I never forgave Veeck for those trades.

Technically last year was worse.

On this date a year ago, the Sox were 0.76 runs per game worse than the 29th worst offense in baseball.

That was beyond abysmal.

This year 28th and close to falling behind KC for 29th.

Four position players emerging this season would be nice. Elko just getting started though.
