bmags
STupid mlb didn't have the play where he went from first to third when the shortstop bobbled the ball into LF and no one was covering third. One of those "we are going to be smart and aggressive" plays that hasn't happened since they've chattered. But we did have this triple. SO his real statline is he got to third on his own twice, and a double. Love this dude. Also props to Keith Law who kept Vargas on his breakout players for 2025 ("other names in consideration") when I thought he was toilet paper after last year: Quote Miguel Vargas, 3B, Chicago White Sox I want to believe. He hit everywhere in the minors, had plate discipline and made hard contact. But last year, he was flat-out weak, making soft contact and wearing down as the season went on. He’s put on some good weight this winter — he’s in the best shape of his life! — and the White Sox have worked with him on his swing, but those are just words until there’s something in his performance or data to back it up. He hasn’t even hit better in the early going in spring training, which is always more noise than signal anyway, but even that isn’t working in his favor. You could say very similar stuff about Tampa Bay’s Curtis Mead, who hit everywhere in the minors and was awful in the majors, although his biggest problem was swinging at stuff out of the zone. Someone please bookmark this, this will almost certainly be when he starts to fade. But I'm not calling the top, this is the start baby. 4

Ozzie for Manager
Solid building block who should only get better. IF of him, Meidroth, hopefully Montgomery, Teel or Quero at catcher and then you need a 1B . For the next 5 years of all good well. We know it won't but it's nice to dream.
tray
For now, I would like to see Lenyn Sosa and Baldwin on the right side of the infield. I wish Elk could hit because he is an excellent defensive 1B, , but swing and misses reveal that he has not been able to put the bat on the ball enough to keep him in the line-up. Bob Sacamano
Wasn't a fan of this dude last year nor going into this season, but always thought they had nothing to lose playing him. Glad I was wrong.
chitownsportsfan
I thought he got lucky to get to 3rd better throw and tag gets him imo. That said he's turning into a nice building block. Needs some work at 3rd but if he keeps hitting he can be a decent starting 1B.

The shortstop was being lazy and you will always be punished correctly.

If Colson does become a part of the infield, how about Colson at 3B, Meidroth at SS, Sosa/Baldwin at 2B, and Vargas at 1B?

This would be ideal and yea we're all hoping these guys develop enough to at least have a league average or so IF in a couple years.
Ozzie for Manager
I am not ready to give up on elko. Notice in AA and AA he was good when he got there but his 2nd year he was even better. So it may take him a while to adjust. But at this point you ride with him and see if he can figure it out before the end of the year. Just look at Vargas. He hit about .200 his first 500 ABs. Now he has figured it out. It may not work but there is no rain to give up on him. It's not like anyone is pushing for 1st base right now from the minors.

I agree with not giving up on him just yet, but he needs to start swinging at down the plate fastballs early in the count real fast.
Bob Sacamano
All I know is Quero and Teel both need to be in the lineup every day, at C and DH. When you have a 4-man bench, I don't think its completely necessary to carry a third catcher. I'll risk a guy getting hurt and losing the DH spot. You have 4 guys on the bench that can pinch hit throughout the game.
GGajewski18
I don't think Elko will be the guy, but he has definitely earned the rest of the season at 1B at the MLB level. Vargas' value ideally would be greater at 3B, so I would love for him to stick there. Think it will depend on Montgomery and how he develops at SS at the MLB level. For me, I want Vargas at 3B, Montgomery at SS and Meidroth at 2B. Figure out 1B and the OF when the time comes

Quin
I've never said a bad thing about Miguel "The Swing Change" Vargas. Just don't look at my post history or sworn affidavits.

They have no one else at the position anyway. Vargas should stay at 3B as long as possible

That just seems to be the pattern. Colson could be the next Collins or Vaughn. Just smoke and mirrors.
