I’m still mad at him for not starting Billy Pierce in the Series but game 2 was the key game which I attended. The Sox were rallying in the 7th inning but 3B coach Tony Cuchienello was the goat of the series when he sent slow runner home with the tying run with no outs and he was out by so much he didn’t bother sliding.
Lopez did make a blunder starting Early Wynn in game 6 on 2 days rest, at the time most thought it was a good idea, Wynn was the Cy Young winner in 59 but unfortunately he was gassed and the Dodgers jumped all over him early and the Series was over.

Game 2, Klu and Lollar were the slow pokes on base. Lopez pinch ran for Klu. He left in Lollar.  Bad choice. Then, he ignored Pierce. Then, he started Wynn with 2 days rest. Lopez choked.

I was at that game, too.

70-80 wins will be the landmark of being competitive in the Sox kingdom.  They will be a team in wildcard contention and then reality sets in late July and the trade frenzy happens to make Birmingham better.

It will be a rebuild of the rebuild rebuild.  People think those really work.   Rebuilds don't work when an organization is bad. The rebuild for success doesn't start with the players just everyone above them.

You cab see this pattern in a few other organizations.

When this team wins 80 game again, people will be building statues.

I still say there is something special about winning only once in a fortnight....it really makes you appreciate and cherish every single victory. I actually feel sorry for Dodgers fans with their hohum victories.

Chris Getz is the diminishing marginal utility champion!

Comment I saw on Reddit was that at least the White Sox have given us lots of random fun stuff.

  • Lightning in a bottle WS team with one of the most dominant playoff runs ever
  • A president, a pope and a brief stint by Michael Jordan
  • 5 no-hitters, of which 2 were Perfect Games. The other 3 were nearly perfect.
  • Field of Dreams game
  • Absolutely dominant players (that they could never surround with depth)
  • Some of the best aesthetics in the sport

On the flip side, I don't know if any team has weirder negative s%*# happen to them, like the Drake LaRoche stuff or a fan getting shot in the bleachers and no one noticing.

From like 1995 to 2015 we had a fun run even with not much sustained winning. We had a lot of stars, memorable events, etc. Since 2015 it's been really not a lot of fun.

I would say most of the fun stopped after Brian Anderson’s diving catch. 2020-2021 had some good moments.

Al Lopez who I consider the best Sox manager of all time.

Holy cow. He last managed in 1969. That's 56 years ago.

That's one of my main beefs. With the tank/rebuild philosophy your team is stripped of all stars. That's no way to win a pennant. Sox don't have one star on the team now. Our star constantly hits under .200. Once in a while he robs a home run in center and "some" fans go nuts like he's an actual star. I don't think Vargas is a star but he's our closest to that with 10 homers.

From 1990 through 2006 they had 12 winning seasons, four losing ones and a .500 year. Since then?

Among the worst in MLB.

Of course the Black Sox scandal and then there was Chris Sale imitating Edward Scissorshand. Who can forget Disco Demolition Night where we had to forfeit the second game. Then there was the game Bill Veeck thought it was a great idea for the Sox to wear shorts.

I actually supported Sale on this board for chopping up the unis. Those were weird unis and I said if he felt uncomfortable and could hurt his arm he should not wear them. The Sox wouldn't relent so he was right. Disco Demolition Night was probably one of the top three lowest moments in all of sports. The shorts? Yeah a dumb idea.

What Veeck did well: Sign Zisk. Hire Nancy. Sit with fans in stands. Put exciting players on the field with no money. Make baseball fun.

Bill never hired Nancy. Stu Holcomb did it before the start of the 1970 season after hearing her play at a social event.
