The lack of playing time for Quero is ridiculous.

I know. Personally, just risk it and play both. Who the hell cares if you need to maybe pinch hit 2-3 times or let the pitcher bat once. Also, odds are the Catcher doesn't get hurt.

Or just call up Korey Lee instead of some other waste of space player.

They seem to be trying so hard to make Rojas a tradable asset.

Shockingly he's gotten in 51 games already and has -1 fWAR. Such a stupid signing we really just light money on fire with these "vet stop gaps" when the younger cheaper guys are already around. We aren't winning anything I don't get it. It's likely to just save face but Getz is so bad at scouting these vets that only 1/4 or so is actually a positive WAR player.

He hit on Tauchmann, he struck out on half a dozen others.

I was curious about this, so here's a list of all the MLB contracts Getz has signed players to during his tenure, organized generically into 'good' or 'bad' signings (according to me). The categories could probably be more targeted, ie the Maldonado tier, the Fedde tier, the Slater tier and the Tim Hill tier (Clev is in a tier of his own...I'm adding it).

I think it's a complete list, let me know if I'm missing anyone. Not including minor league contract players who are potentially 'blocking' a younger, better player.

Good

Houser, Altavilla, Martin Perez, Fedde, DeJong, Tauchman, Tyler Alexander, Michael A Taylor, Flexen

Bad

Rojas, Bryse Wilson, Tim Hill, Brebbia, Maldonado, Pillar

Ugly

Clevinger. the guy just looks like s%*# regardless of his personality.

You're missing a ton of vets that sucked and got cut last year and this year but I don't care to go through them all again I already did the other day. He's done fine on the pitching side, on the position player side he's basically just lit money on fire.

Yeah. This exercise is exhausting, and I'm happy to look forward to what Getz has planned for a slight infusion of Ishbia cash this TDL and off-season.

I don't think I'm missing "a ton of vets", I went through all the transactions since Getz was hired and it's possible I missed someone during this 2 minute analysis. I hit submit too early, but noted I'm not considering minor league contracts who play too much. It's hard to call that lighting money on fire.

I generally agree with what you're saying, especially about hitters, especially especially about Rojas and Maldonado which were really fuckin' dumb signings any way you slice it. I just think if they're gonna sign an actual hitter in the offseason, it would have to be for a lot of money that JR is evidently not willing to spend at the moment. Pitchers are very up and down and it's hard to tell sometimes which one is actually any good. Hitters I think are easier to scout and so the good ones get paid. With pitchers, I think organizations can 'unlock' them better than hitters if they have the physical tools and the brainpower. Maybe that's wrong and I'm just too used to watching the White Sox...

But also, I'm personally not so interested in signing hitters in free agency unless it's, like, the Bryce Harper, Juan Soto tier of players or an international player. Would rather we develop our own guys, seems like a more sustainable strategy unless you're the Yankees or Dodgers and can carry a terrible contract or three and still be players in free agency. Are we doing that, developing hitters? Is Fuller making an impact? It's hard to say. My 'personal feeling' (no data) is yes...sort of. There was that meme about the 'swing decisions' a few months ago, but our Sox definitely take a ton of walks relative to last season. I don't know what the statistics are throughout the minor league system, but I wonder if Colson would've flamed out under Hahn and Kenny's leadership. These guys like Sosa, Vargas, Brooks have taken a step forward, but maybe they would have regardless.

I do think it's interesting that the Orioles forgot how to hit and the White Sox are 'pretty good' in at least one offensive category now (BBs).

Reward his first home run with 3 games on the bench. Venable losing points with me on how he's handling the teel/quero situation.

He's losing a lot of points with his lineups. I'll give him some credit for doing a good job having guys ready to come in and bullpen management. After the last two clowns it's nice to have someone that isn't asleep at the wheel on a nightly basis.
