Official 2025 Draft Day Thread

Featured Replies

Happy Draft Day!

Figure we can use a new thread for picks and close the old one like we usually do. Some pertinent details below.

https://www.mlb.com/milb/news/2025-mlb-draft-overview-and-schedule?t=mlb-draft-coverage

The 2025 MLB Draft will take place on Sunday and Monday in Atlanta as part of MLB All-Star Week. MLB Network and ESPN will provide live coverage of the Draft's opening night beginning at 6 p.m. ET. MLB Network’s Draft Pre-Show presented by Nike will begin at 5 p.m.

Both networks will air the first 43 selections live. After that, MLB Network will carry each of the remaining picks on opening night, which consists of 105 picks: the first three rounds, compensatory rounds, competitive balance rounds and prospect promotion incentive selections. The entirety of the Draft will also be streamed on MLB.com.

Coverage of Day 2 of the Draft -- consisting of rounds 4 through 20 on Monday -- will be streamed on MLB.com beginning at 11:30 a.m. ET.

  • I'm with you. Hard to argue about a left handed hitting OF with a patient approach and some notable thump with solid tools across the board. I take this all day at 44.

  • Yea same. Imagine chasing off an insider who routinely would feed the board tidbits on draft intel, trade info, and knowledge on the inner workings of the org. Shows how shitty and petty some of

I will caveat that almost every year the picks get leaked before the actual selection and it gets posted in this thread. I and others try to use the spoiler feature but it doesn't always happen.

If you don't want to be spoiled on the pick, probably don't be refreshing and checking this thread.

Last Pipeline mock with Mayo/Callis.

https://www.mlb.com/milb/news/final-mlb-mock-draft-2025?t=mlb-draft-coverage

10. White Sox
Mayo: JoJo Parker, SS, Purvis (Miss.) HS (No. 9)
We’ve had Parker in this spot so many times, I’m almost afraid not to put him here. In all seriousness, they do like the prep shortstop among a group of bats they seem to be considering. It’s mostly other high schoolers like Steele Hall, Gavin Fien and Kayson Cunningham, but there is some interest in college hitters like infielders Marek Houston and Wehiwa Aloy.

Callis: JoJo Parker, SS, Purvis (Miss.) HS (No. 9)
Parker is the most realistic best-case scenario for the White Sox, though there's a nagging suspicion that he might not get here. Chicago could turn to prep infielders Kayson Cunningham and Gavin Fien or Tennessee second baseman Gavin Kilen.

Listening to Doyle's podcast from this morning. Sounds like the Angels Scouting Department are all in on Willits, but Perry Minasian wants a close to the majors player to plug in fast. Thus the Liam Doyle/college pitcher angle.

Absolutely critical the White Sox find some hitters in this draft!!    Also thoughts on the outfielder from Clemson falling to the sox  second round?

It will be funny if Liam Doyle is the pick. 3 LHPs in a row. Hoping for Parker or Carlson.

  • Author

Sounds like the Marlins are really into Ike Irish which is new and fortuitous.

They were heavily linked to the prep SS guys up until this point which would help one of Carlson/Parker to fall to the Sox.

  • Author

Doyle was asked about the Sox and Carlson getting to 10.

Says he thinks the big hurdle is Toronto at 8. Carlson is in the Jays mix along with college pitching. Depends on them.

Ponders if Jamie Arnold or Liam Doyle are available at 10, can you pass that up?

Also notes that the Sox are big game hunting at 44 and trying to cut a deal at 10.

Doyle was also asked about pick 44 specifically with the White Sox.

Notes that they are into Kruz Schoolcraft, and Michael Oliveto. But goes specifically into Schoolcraft. Notes that it could come down to a bidding war between the White Sox and Royals for him.

Also here's a writeup on Oliveto via BA.

Quote

Michael Oliveto - C

Ht: 6'3" | Wt: 185 | B-T: L-R

School: Hauppauge (N.Y.) HS Drafted/Committed: Yale
Age At Draft: 18.5

BA Grade: 50/Extreme

Oliveto is a 6-foot-3, 185-pound lefthanded hitter and catcher who was one of the more buzzy Northeastern prep names this spring. Oliveto wasn’t at many of the top national showcases on the 2024 summer circuit, but he had a tremendous showing at Perfect Game’s WWBA World Championship in Jupiter, Fla., where he went 8-for-13 (.615) with two home runs, two triples and a double. He has a calm and relaxed setup in the box, with great rhythm and a sound approach. His swing is loose and easy with a low finish and present strength that leads to easy power to his pull side. As Oliveto continues to fill out and get closer to physical maturity, it would be easy to project above-average power to all fields. While mechanically Oliveto’s swing is sound, there could be some skepticism about the overall quality of his hit tool simply because of his relatively light track record. The competition he faces as a New York high schooler isn’t enough to create huge confidence, but he does have the swing, eye and tools to see a well-rounded offensive player. Oliveto has work to do defensively to stick behind the plate. He’s a good athlete who should earn every opportunity to improve and stick at catcher, but his receiving needs tightening. He has a solid-average arm that could tick up to above-average in the future. Oliveto is committed to Yale, but his talent fits in rounds three to five.

Scouting Grades: Hit: 50 | Power: 55 | Run:40 | Field: 45 | Arm: 50.

Would love Jojo Parker at 10 and Jacob Parker at 67. Oliveto is an intriguing player at 44. Bat ahead of the glove. I wonder how long they would run him out at catcher given how badly the system needs bats.

Ike Irish or bust

Predictions vs who you want?

I think Steele Hall because just because the board falls to worst case scenario, but hoping for JoJo the most.

Hoping for Carlson.  I know JoJo did well on the summer circuit last year, but there's no competition in Miss and that track record of those kids scares me.  I don't want Irish and if Doyle or Arnold fell, they would be better options than Hall/Cunningham (IMO).  Hall is an elite athlete that will stay at short, but can we develop the hit tool (and make him passable with power)?  Cunningham won't stick at SS, but he can hit.

I know you should always follow the adage of BPA, but we desperately need to come out of this draft with power, athleticism, and positional upside.  How we address those needs can be different on a player by player basis, but I’d like to see us take three pretty swings on the positional side with our limited bonus pool and for us to prioritize ceiling over floor where possible.

Same concerns about Mississippi were said regarding Konnor Griffin and he’s the #1 prospect in baseball now

Final Kiley mock. Also has Ethan Conrad with the 44th pick.

Quote

10. Chicago White Sox

Billy Carlson, SS, Corona HS (CA)

Rank: 8

Carlson's range seems to be No. 7 to No. 12, maybe No. 14. I think the White Sox really want to land the Parker brothers (JoJo and Jacob) but can't get JoJo to this pick.

The White Sox have been all over high school hitters all spring, and Carlson gets the nod over Gavin Fien.

Also, Kiley has Steele Hall going to Cinci here. That's a new wrinkle. Mentioned they have interest in Carlson as well.

It's unfortunate because I don't believe the Sox can develop s%*# but on the other hand taking another college player would be underwhelming

Law updated his mock with new dirt that might be bullshit. Has Ike Irish going to the Angels at 2, and Doyle to the White Sox.

Liam Doyle
School: Tennessee, Bats: R, Throws: L
Pretty sure this would be a dream scenario for the White Sox. I’ve heard them with Seth Hernandez, Steele Hall, Kruz Schoolcraft and JoJo Parker too.

Wow. Law has a rumor that the Orioles are trying to slide Willits.

Quote

One fun rumor running around Sunday afternoon was that Baltimore, who have the largest bonus pool in the 14-year history of this system at $19,144,500, has put out an offer north of $10 million to Eli Willits if he can somehow slide to their first pick at #19. It's unlikely it would work - someone could just take him and offer him slot, daring him to turn down $5-9 million - but that's one way to try to use a giant pool to get yourself a premium player you wouldn't otherwise get.

I'm not saying pass on him, but if somehow Doyle were there I'd take him.  And I'd still take Carlson over Jojo since he won't be a SS.  Splitting hairs here, but maybe Griffin is the current #1 prospect out of the 2024 draft, but he's not the #1 overall prospect.
