Personally, I find Boog and Deshais to be pretty bad. Curious what you don't like about them because I think they're pretty damn good. They can be light and playful, while still telling you what's happening and why it's happening. Incorporate analytics without being over the top with them. Homers, but critical of the team when it's called for. Yeah, I watched a lot more Cubs than Sox in the first half of the season.

That is all I need from him. Let the color guy give you interesting tid bits and nuance of the game. Nobody disagrees with that. The issue is that he tries to generate excitement that isn’t there. It just feels so unnatural. An announcer should match and deliver the on-field product, not get in its way. When Schriff goes over the top, it feels manufactured and unnatural in a distracting way.

Dick Allen
The biggest problem with all his manufactured excitement is he knows very little about the White Sox. I bet before he interviewed for the job, he couldn’t name 5 guys on the roster. Now he’s supposedly a Bill Veeck expert, but last year he didn’t know how to pronounce his name. It really make all his exuberance seem even more insincere. 3 2 1
soxrwhite
I heard Harrelson do PBP his entire career. I tired of the same cliches about 15 years in, but I never tired of him. He was an unashamed homer who took plenty of heat for being a homer. I never tired of him because he rooted for the same home team I do, Schriffen could generate excitement for any team that hired him. He is as sincere as a mercenary. The advance ticket sale for tomorrows Bill Veeck night is not good.

He was pissed off when things were bad, he was elated when things were good, and he didn't call everything like it was the single greatest play in the history of baseball.

Can't highlight your quote about "critical of the team when it's called for" I watch cub games all the time and don't see this at all. Usually they're playing around or talking about some nonsense when the Cubs are getting their ass kicked

We are 31 games under .500 this year. I will take excitement when it comes. You can live in your PBP Missery

Lip Man 1
26 minutes ago, 2Deep said: Then keep being miserable because very few moments of the excited about a team that is 32 games under 500 A fan shouldn't be getting "excited" about anything a team does that is 32 games under .500 and about to have their 13th losing season in the last 19 years...but that's just my opinion. You have to play it the way you see it. I respect that although I disagree with it. It's pretty clear John's knowledge of this franchise is very, very thin. Like one side of a single sheet of paper...and it shows. You'd think it would have gotten better since this is his second year but unfortunately it hasn't.

Well from what I was told by some people involved it was more a question of JR simply not liking his style, his off the wall/pop culture comments and frequent analytics references. I don't think money factored in, JR simply didn't like him.

Schriffen is doing the same thing when he isn’t talking about his true love, the NBA.

According to media reports, Benetti's contract with the Tigers allows him to miss 35 games per season. I don't know how many games Schiffren has missed, but I'm guessing fewer than 10.
