The Future of the White Sox TV Broadcast Team

Not to be a jerk but how do some of us remain Sox fans?

Pathetic product with the only highlights the past few years the play of Colson and Robert maybe his first year. The staff of so many great names (Mark, Hoyt, Bobby, Peters, Horlen, Wilhelm, Sale, Wood, Garland, Pierce, Lyons, Walsh, Faber, Thiggy, McDowell, Cease de resistance, need I go on?) turns to a staff where I can't name one starter (I forget the name of the flamethrower who has looked good at times). ... And finally if u do watch a game, u have to suffer with poor Schiff and Gordo (don't like his accent sadly; love Stoney) or Stoney.

Ah for the days of the aforementioned pitchers and Harry. Our team certainly has been at its low ebb with Schiff at the mike. I know $$ rules all but how can Stoney keep signing to broadcast this wretched club.

I find it easy being a White Sox fan. I renew my season tickets every year and go to the games and just hope for the best.

You bring up an interesting dilemma, you have to appreciate your fandome and loyalty but at the same time "hoping" for the best for a team in a major market with major advantages over the others in their division also seems counter productive to me.

It like all those years the Cubs kept selling out with garbage teams, what motivation was there for the front office to actually try?

Kind of the same situation with JR although I realize his sweetheart lease also is a big factor, if less fans show up he actually wins not having to pay the state anything, even getting them to have to pay him making up the difference to a certain limit.

(Don't know who on the state side said OK to those terms but they should have been fired on the spot)

Just a dynamic that seems to put fans between a rock and a hard place while JR laughs all the way to the bank.

That's over 2 million fans and under 800,000...taxes and subsidies.

Neither are likely to impact them unless they're still not competitive three years from now and have to again rebuild after a strike with no new stadium in sight.

That would be worst case bleak.

Crazy how much better Schriffen is doing basketball games

I get it.  I do football games, but don't see football the same way I do basketball.  Being a bit of a perfectionist, I KNOW it comes out in my technical reading of it when I call a football game.  There are intricacies that are missed, 100%, and it is obvious to a baseball fan when it happens.

When you want to get something off your chest go ahead and post because you are a Sox lifer just like all of us on this board.

41-121, bring it on I'm still here.   I don't need a "Croix de Candlestick" pin as a badge of honor or some fake Cub fan woe is me.

Sometime I'll tell a story here about my dad, a lifelong Sox fan, and how I prevented a travesty at his viewing/funeral. Rest in peace to a tru Sox fan.

You took your Cubs hat off before you entered?

Good line, but please stop teasing me about being a Cub fan. I swear on a stack of Bibles and I am a practicing Mass-goer that I am not a Cub fan and in fact didn't even follow them at all in this year's playoffs.

Now I was a Sox and Cub fan as a 10-11 year old when gramps took me to some Cub games as I was a kid who loved baseball and he was our sole relative except for my rich uncle who liked the Cubs. So he needed someone to go with. Not sure why he stopped taking me to games after one or two summers. Maybe he thought my dad would get mad at indoctrinating Cubs.

I am a true Sox fan. My story is good but it will take a while to explain and it'd probably bore people in a day and age of quick hot takes and people yawning at story telling. Go Bro Rice!

We should take an offseason poll in a day and age where all we hear about are the polls in politics: Is greg a Cub fan?

I never said I wasn't an ANGRY Sox fan. Why the bleep would I root for the Cubs? I told you I remain a Sox fan although I'm close to abandoning baseball because of our failed tank/rebuild jobs.

I am a PLAYOFF ONLY fan of the Bears, Blackhawks and Bulls as all three have lost me since their years of ineptitude have turned me into a fair weather of those teams. There are a lot of fairweather fans out there, why not me. Notice no Cubs on that list. I'm not even a playoff Cub fan. Me no likey the Cubs. Ask Fathom. When the Sox were good I would freak whenever the Cub beat us in the season series. I am not a fan of the Chiefs, Royals or Cub. I am a tru southsider. Give me italian beef and tavern pizza and i'm a happy southsider. Also a Schlitz, Falstaff, Old Style, Olympia. Your disdain for greg is remarkable.

Geez. Frustrating for me to be thought of as a Cub lover when I wouldn't go to a game if u gave me free tickets in the fourth row behind the dugout. Maybe I'd go if they were playing da Sox.

Thank u. It's just frustrating to be on the board so long and post so much stuff about past Sox players to have my fandom questioned. How many people know of Tommy McCraw, Bill Nahorodny, Luis Alvarado, Tommie Agee, JC Martin, Ralph Garr, Dave Nicholson, Sandy Alomar, Bobby Knopp et. all? Just cause the Sox have angered me the last two years doesn't mean I didn't grow up a huge Sox fan. Sox deserve all the scorn guys like me give them on the board.

Jason Benetti is so much better than Schriffen it’s not even funny.  Benetti is announcing the Oregon / Minnesota game tonight on FOX.

see i was watching this game thinking (go gophers) that benetti should stick to football and basketball because the second he has to fill dead air (or however many hours of dead air are in a baseball game) he sounds like a two-bit comedian enrolled in an improv workshop at second city. not to say schriffen is any good, but man benetti's bit got tired.

He was excellent with Bill Raftery on the Wake Michigan OT game this week.

He’s certainly no Jim Brockmire; that’s for sure.
