I don't think it's far fetched to think that, after being away from each other for 5 days, they had a meeting that was akin to "we want to be better in the second half than we were in the first half."

  • I don't understand the desire to trade Sosa. Would you advocate trading Vargas? Because they are the same age and have the same contract status in terms of time to free agency. I'd be surprised if Get

I don’t think they’ve played in a way that shows they don’t care unlike last year.

I think this year there are enough promising young players that they know there is something to look forward to. Even if they aren't winning there is that possible future.

Last year was more retread veterans as a stop gap until the young prospects arrived this year. They knew it was nothing last year.

Well, going by head-to-head W/L record, we can officially say we're better then Pittsburgh, Colorado, and Miami. So I guess that's something.

Why are the players having these problems already?  Wasn't that the reason for firing Pedro in the first place?

Who said there was a problem?

Since it was Friday sounds like a "here are the goals for the second half" type of thing.

So they just randomly decided nothing was wrong,  but also they need to hold people accountable? Sure.

That doesn't mean there was clubhouse issues. Holding each other accountable doesn't mean there was an issue to begin with necessarily. They possibly just want to stay focused and be better for this final stretch.

What work place talks about accountability without accountability being a problem?  Not goals, not improvement, not better.  Accountability. There are a million other things that could have been said, but accountability has very specific connotations.

We had zero evidence of anything being wrong before the last group collapsed other than some between the lines stuff.  I am sure not waiting for our Crack reporters to tell us anything until it is a post mordum.

We heard from a lot of veteran pitchers, starting with Dallas Keuchel, that all of the young guys were a bunch of lazy idiots. That doesn't seem to be the case here.

There were signs.

And we have a veteran talking about holding players accountable right here.

This is the reason for the "character" in the draft process you were complaining about. Better character and work ethic, the fewer of these types of problems.

Any leader in business or anything else should talk to others at periodic times to listen and then talk about goals and what we want to do going forward. I have the accountability discussion with my student at the beginning of each semester, among other things.

TLR/Grifol era was such a cancer. So many regressed or out of baseball.  It's still a mystery how that got into players' heads that may have caused this.  Robert is the only one left of that era.

It's sad how this turned out.  I never like the Grifol hire since he was from a habitual losing organization. That stuff spreads obviously.  His statements before he started as manager here were not impressive.

And even calling it a "problem" feeds into the game here. My guess is that veterans take a rookie when they see a slump developing and go talk to them. It's not a clubhouse problem. It's the normal course of life. Coming out of the All-Star break, a couple of vets stepped up and decided to focus the team on some feedback Venable talked about recently. There's no problem, it's not bad, and to frame it as such is silly.

I have been in my industry for almost 30 years now, and we talk about a lot of things with leadership.  The only time we hear about accountability in the middle of a time period is when people aren't pulling their weight.  It's a much different picture at the beginning, than hallway through the season.

Right but is .350 the high point once you get past the 1st 10 games of the season ?

Pretty sure it is because they were  as bad in April of this year as they were last year and it's been a long climb just to get to .350.

Since May 1 they are at a .400 winning percentage, basically on a 65 win pace.

It’s not great, but it’s not abysmal. Now 7-9 in July with a positive run differential.

We might have benefitted a lot from facing weaker teams but it means we aren’t necessarily the worst team anymore. It’s a step up.
