Looking at the 1882 Cubs, now, I find a couple of things interesting.

1) None of the players were born in the South. There was probably a period where Southerners entered the game. Does anyone know of a culture shock when this happened?
2) The team played 84 games, and used 12 players between fielders and pitchers. They only used 2 pitchers. One position player (Ed Williamson) threw 3 innings in one game.
3) They played at Lakefront Park 1, which was located at the corner of Michigan Ave and Randolph. The area is part of Grant Park, now.
4) Catcher Silver Flint led the team with 4 HRs.
5) Best record that season (55-29), only two HOFers, Cap Anson and King Kelly.
6) 5 of the players died before the age of 45.

One of the Hall-of-Famers, King Kelly, caught cold on a ferry ride during the off-season of 1893, developed pneumonia and died. He had a song written about him, Slide, Kelly, Slide.

I am with you and do not understand the admiration for him here....his ceiling is a utility infielder at best. His defense is also overrated.

Not to toot my own horn, but I am wearing my lucky Birmingham Barons cap today.....you're welcome Mr Venable.

Hope hes not limping there

Montgomery's last chance to tie Sosa and to finish the season with a . 240 BA.

If Sosa could play defense, Meidroth would probably be a backup.

I think Meidroth is solid. I have him as a guy who sticks around and maybe starts until the Caleb Bonemers and Billy Carlsons graduate and displace him in the lineup.

He might finish top 5 in ROY voting which is damn good for a guy who came up so late in the season.

What happened

Great day in sports for me. Sox won, Bills won. Make it better if the Chiefs would lose

Let me second that. Gamethreads are not everyone's cup of tea and some people just do not like tea, but for me they are very entertaining even when the product on the field is not.

Spend some money JR……last 3 seasons have been ridiculously epic bad.

60 -102...  Could have easily be 72-90. But it is what it is

That's a wrap on this season. See  you in 2026.

Did Colson really just tweak something?

Nice way to end the season with a series win as we reach 60 wins.

is it spring training yet?

Yeah but every time the season ends a part of me just gets down. No matter how bad the team is. I mean last year was probably the exception

White Sox winnah!!

Probably just hit the bag hard. He'll be fine in a couple of days.

Fall league is soon....also in Arizona

Goodbye 2025 season . Hopefully you will be remembered as the year that started the careers of 4 future All Stars and as the 1st step on the path to a new era of baseball.

You young fans have a great era of Sox baseball to look forward to. We will have the best owner in White Sox history, which isnt a large mountain to climb.
