Brooks Baldwin

I really hope Baldwin is part of the 2026 plans for the White Sox and I’m not talking about a spot player.  Give him a position somewhere in the outfield and put his name in the lineup every day!  Am i off on this?

I agree, I really like the kid but what is his best position. I don’t want him bouncing around.

I would park him in LF. Beni can ride the pine. If Sox had any type of solid ownership they'd just DFA him and eat the contract.

I’d make Beni the DH against right handed pitching. I think Teel is the everyday catcher with Lee the backup which makes Quero trade bait.

They need to stick him in one place (probably LF) so he can get comfortable defensively. He’s not good enough anywhere defensively to be moved around so much at this point, but he has a live bat. Maybe after he becomes proficient in LF, the transition to the other outfield spots will be easier. I’m more confident in him doing something offensively than I was with Sheets or Vaughn, and they got tons of opportunities in the outfield.

That would be interesting as its been reported that  many pitchers dont like throwing to Lee.

I think his value will come from being serviceable in like 5 positions instead of below average at 1.

I think this would be an enormous mistake. The dude is a gamer, full of TWTW. Not even being sarcastic.

I agree in part. Great command of the strike zone. Pure hitter, almost certainly has more power and OBP in him than he's shown in MLB. I think he'll walk a lot more next season and could hit up to 15 home runs.

I just don't see where he gets the playing time he is owed unless Teel moves to the outfield. I think Quero has better raw 'tools' at catcher, frankly, but they seem to be going with Teel behind the plate.

Simply, he's too good to be a backup/dh. The lineup has bigger flaws imo. A young center fielder who can hit some would be perfect. I still like Alcantara on the Cubs, I think Quero for him makes sense for both teams...but I wouldn't trust my scouting ability either. A player like Alcantara plus another player or two. I think Quero is straight up a better player, just doesn't fit super well.

I like it.  But the vets are still crowding him and others out.   They’ve got to move tauchman, Roert and Benintendi out of here by midseason 2026, if not before.

Don't know what Beni's war is, but to me he's an average to slightly above average player with an arm so weak it's laughable. I kind of like him, though. I think paying him that much only to have him play part time would be demoralizing for team morale. I assume Beni has some leadership qualities for when we get good. Lip might know if he's a gamer or doesn't care.

We have 3 good catchers and only 1 should be the primary guy with Lee the backup, I’m fine with Quero being the guy and if Teel could play the outfield or first base, that’s OK with me.

I would also rather save LF for one of the no field hitters, such as Vargas or Sosa.

You can't have Sosa, Vargas, Baldwin, and Beni all playing left. I'm afraid Vargas is simply the third baseman. Baldwin at first base? Beni and Sosa DH? Perhaps Braden Montgomery in left?

Look, when it comes to Andrew Benintendi, I couldn't care less.  He has two years left under contract, and is probably getting about to the point where the Sox have historically been able to dump a deal like this, whether he plays well enough to be traded, or he just gets DFAd.  Essentially he is down to 2/32 left on his deal.  If he wins LF, cool.  If not, too bad.  He's not going to be a part of the next winning team, so his job means nothing going forward.

Baldwin isn't going to be a guy who plays the same position every day.  His value is going to be playing 3/4 spots a week to give guys days off.  His defense needs to get better, but that is doable.  Nothing about his defense is like Benny's arm that you really can't fix it.

Sosa and Vargas are great potential LF targets.  Both have had OK bats, and maybe taking away the weakest part of their game allows them to play a bit better even.

I will worry about Braden Montgomery when he gets here.  If he is good enough to force someone out of a position when he gets here, cool.  If not, too bad.
