January 22Jan 22 I understand the logic in a guy like Melendez, simply because he can play - but isn’t limited to - catcher, thus allowing Teel/Quero to DH without Venable worrying. I don’t have interest in Melendez specifically, but as a minor league deal its fine.

While he hasn't caught much the last few year, he would serve as your emergency/third catcher.
