Robert Thread: Sox talking to Reds, Mets

Well, if the Bartolo Colonoscopy tweet has any veracity, they'd get a starting pitcher they could work on this season, a CF who hasn't made the transition to AAA yet, and a Comp pick that pads out the 2026 draft even further. While that is certainly not the Crochet return, this would definitely be workable for $10 and Robert.

Yea - you take that all day every day without thinking twice.

  • They don’t have anywhere near enough pitching to compete if they kept Robert. None of this is about 2026.

    According to whom?

  • The problem is, if you commit to him being full-time DH, you’re relegating Quero to the bench. And I’d rather rotate the catchers there to get them the most at bats in a lost season.

Yeah but the thing is even if you believe that report that's what the Sox wanted but the Reds refused to go that far, understandably so.

From what i've seen online, you can't leave the heteros out of that conversation either.

It could never be clean enough.  Even after sitting in one of those boiling torture pots from the show Shogun.

never underestimate the power of booze.

I think if Realmuto doesn’t re-sign with Philly, a Robert+Quero trade makes sense. Maybe Crawford and two of Wood/Chase/Obermueler

Reds still keeping conversations open with Sox on Robert despite recent outfield additions per Whittenmeyer.

Wittenmeyer won’t give up on this rumor.

Where did you see that?

Doesn’t seem like they have room with the recent additions but I guess there could be a scenario where they move Steer (or Lux even) and Marte finds his way back into the IF mix at 1B/DH (hasn’t played 1B at any level…yet)

Just another demonstration that you can’t trust what you see online.

Here’s the blurb from Wittenmeyer’s 12/27 article:

”The Bleday trade offers at least a platoon option and potential upside play for the Reds, who continue to look for reliable pop for the middle of the lineup (including staying in contact with the White Sox on a possible Robert trade).”

Which means, "If Getz gets himself into meth rehab and comes down off his lofty asking price, the Reds could take Robert and $15M off his hands in exchange for an A-ball arm who's already passed his real estate licensing exam."

I'm surprised Sosa and Robert are still on this team to be honest, I figured they would both be gone before January

Let's be honest, the guys they got are filler for a good team

Yeah. A team in a competitive window shouldn’t be gambling on guys like Bleday. But the 2 OF additions probably make up a platoon in one of the spots.

I am surprised we have gotten the Merkin piece about how bad the Reds offer actually is to counter the Cincy narrative TBH.

Yep.  I don’t see the Reds happening.

I must have missed that. How bad?

It's probably the most tantalizing off-season trade rumor, so everybody keeps publishing teaser articles about teams kicking the tires on him.

I'm settling on "Getz really saw Robert as the strongest ceiling of the CF options out there, so kept him for $20M. If somebody wants to suffocate him with prospects, he's all for it, but otherwise, he's got other targets."

Oh wait, that's the one of 3 rehabbing arms, right?

Based on what the "insiders" are saying, it sounds like the offers are decently apart.  We keep getting reports on what the Sox are asking for, but not as much what Cincy is offering at this point.
