Friedman has no reason to be desperate to make a bad signing even worse.

He'll be perfectly fine as a high leverage reliever  like he was with Miami and SD.  Tanner's just not a closer for a high profile contender. It is what it is.

Same thing happened to Devin Williams in NY.

Fwiw Robert Suarez will be absolutely eviscerated in NY Boston Philly.

That's exactly what Steven Matz got to replace him.  He's a swingman now...but predominantly LHR for StL.

White Sox would have to pay roughly $16-18 million to Fairbanks.

Few teams will be willing to pay an aging Robert Suarez $23-25 million, so Fairbanks will have a plethora of suitors with E.Diaz now off the board.

They got some arms coming back  from TJS starting around the middle of June. They need to get more young arms in the BP. 

The juice isn't worth the squeeze with him. Not the type of guy who gets you a nice prospect back.

The Sox want a legit closer and Fairbanks can easily fit into their budget.  Again, the Rays couldn’t find a buyer for him at 1/$11M.  Proven closer with enough warts to help keep his price down makes a ton of sense for us IMO.

I would think that if they're ready to go 2/16 for a guy like Fairbanks, there's a bunch of Shingo Takatsu type dudes looking to pitch in the US for a season or two, that is, if they're just looking for a closer to anchor the bullpen for 4 months.

I don't it's so crazy.  Dodgers had -.7 bWAR in LF last season.  I could kind of see Benintendi giving max effort on a good team.

There is parity but it's bad parity.

I don't know how a cap would change this but I would detest the Tigers more than the Dodgers for doing this.   

 Fans can't have things unless you are on both coasts.

I for one will never believe in a statement that attendance is up in MLB.   

I've heard more than once, never trade with the Dodgers.

This is not good for the game.

As has been shown by folks here at the web site. MLB has had more teams compete in and or/win the World Series than the NBA has had or the NFL either for their respective championships. 

 

Except LA has made the playoffs 13 consecutive seasons...won all those NL West titles except finishing 1 GB SFG.

Braves had a similar streak. But only one WS title during all that time.

Plus LA is completing dominating in getting most of the star players they want out of Japan and Korea.

 

T.Imai will actually be one of the first Japanese pitchers to deliberately go elsewhere...to a team challenging LA for supremacy.

Murakami doesn't have a spot in LA with Muncy Freeman and Ohtani blocking him.  Same with Okamoto.

Do the Dodgers need a starting pitcher? No. But they have the one thing the Reds most need: outfielders with big upside. Note that those top four prospects are all outfielders. One of those is Sirota, a third-round pick in 2024 out of Northeastern by ... the Reds, who then traded him last offseason for Gavin Lux (poor Harold). Sirota had a big year, hitting .333/.452/.616 in 59 games between Single-A and High-A. That trade now looks like a huge mistake by Cincinnati -- so maybe those calls from Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman will go unanswered.

None of those outfielders has played more than six games above High-A, so they're unlikely to help the Reds in 2026. Still, there's a possible match here, and the Dodgers know how to swing big. They could add Greene to their already superstar-laden rotation and then perhaps look to flip Tyler Glasnow to clear a spot for Greene and trim some salary.

Even if every team was forced to have the exact same payroll, large market teams on the coasts would still get the most talent because of abundant off the field marketing and promotional opportunities or more attractive standards/conditions of living.
