Non-White Sox Off-Season Hot Stove

I wouldn’t even want to play any of the infielders the Mets could trade us in the infield over any of the guys currently here. Someone moving to CF like Acuna? Maybe. Just don’t really want him either unless something or two more enticing came with him.

Good for the Dodgers, they care about winning unlike a bunch of other teams.

  • I have a really hard time viewing the Jerry Reinsdorf owned White Sox as victims. The system most designed to screw the Sox is the one JR operates.

The Dodgers lol.  This league is just dumb. Best is those who think there are no issues. "Free Market."

Why do they want infielders though?

I think the Sox have been intrigued by the possibility of LuisAngel Acuña in CF. Baty has played LF. Baty could also push Vargas into the OF.

This is why some posters were interested in Shaw, even though the Sox infield is full.  But Conforto is still good, right?

Or, we could just move our own surplus IFs to the OF and save our assets.

Yeah, I think of it more like who could push to the OF out of Baty, Mauricio, Acuna (pass), Vientos (not likely). I'd really like to target Santucci as the 2nd piece in a deal.

Baty is a better fielder at 3B than Vargas.

42 million a year for Bo Bichette?

Yeah, we're getting a lockout.

I’m not saying he’s worth it, but you have to remember with these insane long-term contracts that the AAV’s are very much diluted by back years with limited expected production.  Tucker’s contract very much makes sense for expected production over the next four years.

Robert for Vientos?

Where would he even play?

Perfect. Then I guess you can push Vargas to LF

Why is it better that so many teams refuse to compete and to bring the league down to that level?

Again, why is this an either/or thing?  Both are fucking problems and should be addressed.

I mean, I wouldn't think they'd want one.. But if it's also the best offer you get by quite a bit, you just take it.

Gotta disagree.  You don’t trade Robert to add an infielder you have nowhere to play.  Either get something that helps long-term or you hold out until the trade deadline.

Vientos would DH and they want/need to trade Robert now for financial reasons.

Exactly.  This new strategy by MLB teams finally makes sense.  High AAV and lower years.  Teams finally wised up.  Why pay a guy $25-$30 million on a 10 year deal until they are well past retirement?

Acuna doesn’t do anything for me unless he’s a secondary piece.  If my scouts felt Baty could play LF, I’d do that trade in a heartbeat.  Not sure the Mets give up four years of Baty for Robert though unless they are super desperate for a CF.

Where do you see we need to trade Robert for financial reasons?

Also, it’s very clear they want to rotate Benintendi much more frequently through the DH spot.  Between that and the Quero/Teel situation, I don’t see any room for another DH.  And even if there is room, Sosa is arguably the best player than Vientos?  I have no idea why we’d be interested in RH DH type at this point.

Theoretically you do it to maximize your payroll space in the near term, but I think GMs are starting to see those landmines fast approaching with past mega deals and trying to be smarter about it.

It’s been the plan all along supposedly

Realmuto back to Philly for 3/45. Domino’s falling fast.

Because we should be punishing bad behavior, not someone who is trying.

So much for getting a haul from them for Quero.

Dammit

Gotcha…so you dislike market size parity in sports.  Unfortunately for everyone else, both are huge problems.  And to say a team with significantly more revenue is trying more because they spend more is like saying I’m a better dad because I buy my kids more Christmas gifts than someone with less means.  It’s a ridiculous argument that ignores a key underlying element of the broader situation.

If it’s NorthsideBob, we have confirmed he’s not all that he claims to be.
