LUIS ROBERT TRADED

I'm not an Acuna fan but I'm surprised people are like "OMG we could have gotten Vientos!". Guy is 26 with one solid season under his belt two years ago and is arbitration eligible next season. He'd be swapping CF Robert for 3B/1B Robert. At least Acuna is younger and can maybe possibly play CF.

Agreed. The Sox have made tons of mistakes but I don’t think passing on Vientos is one of them. He has a similar profile to Vargas and Sosa. They already don’t have enough room for Sosa as it is so I’m not sure where Vientos would’ve fit on this team anyway.

Luis Robert won't be on the next good White Sox team. Acuna and Pauley might be. It's basically that simple. The league just told you what Robert is worth. Holding him into the season would be insane.

Yeah, but Acuna can’t hit.

I think Vientos is a lesser Sosa. Vientos is not a good defender anywhere, really. Vargas is separating himself from that profile.

Saw this the other day.

Luis Robert Jr’s walk rate and chase rate by year:

2023: 5.0% BB rate | 40.6% Chase rate

2024: 6.6% BB rate | 35.9% Chase rate

2025: 9.3% BB rate | 32.5% Chase rate

2026: 24.4% BB rate | 24.4% Chase rate

Just saw this. He currently has 10 walks (none intentional) and 9 strikeouts in 46 plate appearances.

Insanity.

Probably an outlier. Of course now that he is out of the dysfunction you never know.

Mets: Did you ever consider not swinging at pitches out of the zone?

Luis Robert: YOU CAN DO THAT?!?!?

“My last team threw me out there injured and told me to swing with one arm. I just thought that’s what all teams do…”

He started this change last year to be fair. Some time with Juan Soto this year probably helped him put in that last level.

Walking more and chasing less is good in general, but I watched this AB from him a couple games ago and kind of hated the passivity:

The actual bat is too good for me to want him chasing a walk down one in the 8th with a runner on.

But the Mets lineup is less dependent on his power so maybe it balances out. Other guys came through behind him and they won IIRC.

I mean, there's more to the story there. You're never swinging at pitch 4 with a chance to have 1,2 and no one out in a game your losing by 1 in the 8th inning.

Pitch 5, just based off the image, is another take. And then pitch 6, I guess you can make the case for it being too close to take in a full count. Pitch 5 & 6 were just really good pitches in this at bat location wise.

Well, you’ll be happy to know that we replaced him with a CF that swings at everything instead.

Reportedly swings RH, but perhaps Getz project ing the need for a switch hitting approach.

Yeah, pitch 5 and 6 are straight darts. Just tip your cap.

NL OBP leader.

He started 2025 with an high walk rate (17%) but wasn't hitting the ball. Clearly something he's been working on.

Fuller would’ve fixed him.

This didn’t age well…

Another HR and walk for Robert in his first two plate appearances tonight.

The change of scenery may be the best thing to happen to him, just to get out of the losing and the dysfunction.

And to not play in front of empty stadiums he did nothing to fill.

Fair point. He was part of the "Bust Brothers."

Mets management plays it easy and babies him in ST to ensure he is recovered from his nagging injuries and he lights it up early in the regular season.

White Sox management plays him when he’s still banged up coming back from an injury, can only swing with one arm, and tells him to slow jog the bases.

There’s a difference.
