So they want to win shootouts because they can’t sack anyone?

I love that I have the utmost confidence in Poles in the 1st round. Dude just hits.

3rd round Poles scares me.

And it continues...

This is Velus Jones all over again.

I do not understand the lack of taking an edge rusher. They went with a safety in the first round which makes sense if he’s going to start and they went edge next round. They stood pat, the edges were gone, took the center which was ok. But then they traded out of the second with the second pick.

They should have taken an edge in the first and found their safety later. The tight end pick makes no sense to me unless Johnson and Poles want to cut Kmet or build depth when WRs could inevitably be hurt.

They aren't cutting Kmet cause they just restructured his contract.

Completely missed this news. Then I really don’t understand taking a TE with their third pick.

“The Chicago Bears restructured tight end Cole Kmet’s contract in April 2026, converting $7.65 million of his salary into a bonus to create $3.825 million in immediate 2026 cap space. This move reduced his 2026 cap number to $7.775 million while raising his 2027 cap hit—the final year of his deal—to $15.425 million.“

Just a god awful Day 2 for them, yikes

I’m having trouble understanding the strategy behind it and note that they still have holes on the d line. Is the plan to get healthy on that line and pick up some cut players? Does Johnson want to win using an anemic pass rush and win shootouts?

I don’t get it - I didn’t get a few of their moves last year either and the ones I didn’t get hadn’t / haven’t paid off yet.

They really buy into the "BPA" and "don't draft for need" things.

That wouldn't explain Zavion, unless they're hoping his Payton blood turns him into the second coming of Hester.

Taking a dice roll on McCoy would have made more sense.

I wanted them to grab McCoy. Don’t know how bad his injury is but dude was a baller and even if he missed the entire year I would take my chance cause the bounce back upside would be so high.

The DE thing is starting to feel like RB last year. If you look at the guys available, even at 57, who do you take? From 57 to the end of round 3, there was not a single DE that fits the mold of a 4-3 DE....Sure, they could have taken another smaller guy, but they already have Booker who may or may not struggle against the run..

The WR pick is absolutely inexcusable. The idea that narrowing down your board so much based on fit that you are taking tiny punt returners in round 3 means your process sucks or your coach is over fitting to his scheme

Yeah, that one im not a fan of at allll. I understand special teams is a thing, and his top end speed might be able to take the top of the defense off, but in the 3rd?!

SI reported that the Bears would need 5.2 million to sign their draft picks. They freed up 10 mill, and there's several bottom of the roster guys that can be cut to free up more.....I wonder if they go after Bosa, Clooney, Watkins, or most likely Jordan Cameron.

I'm gonna leave the Jordan Cameron mistake in there....I think they're good on tight ends though, so Cam Jordan makes more sense.

I like the Muhammad pick alot. Very good player. Needs to get stronger but I would not be surprised if he supplanted Stevenson mid season. Shocked he was still available.

Also I kinda wish Mike Washington Jr. fell a bit. Not that RB was a need, but that 4.33 speed Ben Johnson would've had fun with.

You wouldn’t be the first to make that mistake (cough browns)

I like the DB they drafted a lot. Probably means he will suck and the guys I complained about will deal.

one thing I will say - Ben Johnson is someone I trust so I am going to hope if he flagged the TE and wideout than he has a plan and sees them being legit players.

The LB from ASU was a solid get too. Nothing sexy but think that was much better than when they got cute with Hyppo but I hope Hyppo with an offseason put on a bit more strength and goes and wins a job.

Poles had a type this year.

Jordan Van Den Berg.

Louis Reddick absolutely loves this pick. His testing was absolutely elite.

Ryan "RAS" Poles strikes again with James Van Der Beek. 2nd highest RAS ever by a DT... never heard of the guy with the #1 highest.

Sounds like an Iowa Hawkeye name...or Dawson's Creek actor.

Honestly one of the coolest moments ever. Legit a "who cut the onions" type.
