Another hot take. Benetti is fine, but he wouldn't be as revered and acclaimed if he didn't have a disability.

I'm pretty lenient on this team but letting him go was worse than losing the most games in baseball history.

What?  You don’t think the great Schriffdawg will ever be the voice of Sunday Night Baseball on NBC?

Another hot take.

I look forward to the day when Ishbia finally takes control of this franchise.  My hope is that a massive house cleaning of the organization quickly follows that day.

This new de is part of the reason they let him go. His real goal is to do national broadcasts. He will do less and less local broadcasts. The Sox wanted him to do the local broadcasts and not really have a two team broadcast schedule with Bennetti only doing partial seasons.

I will be honest, it might have gotten him in the door at the beginning, but it is no where near why he is one of the best in the business.  I can't think of another person in sportscasting who has the versatility that he does.  He sits down in three different sports and sounds like he does any particular one of them all of the time.  He's sits down with different partners and sounds like he has been on the air with whoever it is, forever.  He has a light touch, and is perfectly willing to get his partner engaged as much as possible.  Dude is one of the best in the business.

But he's never growled upon seeing a great play.

In all seriousness, though, you're absolutely right.  I watched a few NFL games with him calling the play-by-play, and he sounds like a natural.  He's just really freaking good at his job.

Yeah, but that's all negated by the way he eats!

I will leave on an NCAA basketball game with two teams I have zero interest in, just because he is calling it.

We've been robbed of Schriff yelling "[home city] staaaaaAAAAAAAND UP!" becoming a beloved, shared experience across baseball.

AGREE!  Even my kids will pay attention to a game when they hear his voice!  Yes...they recognize him thru our love of the White Sox...but we know his voice and we enjoy his call...whatever sport he is calling!  Heck...we even tune into Tiger games to hear him!  He is great!

Whereas Sciambi blends in doing college bb and you hardly recognize his call unless they show him during breaks in the action...different style entirely.  Not nearly so many jokes or attempts at humor...which can be Benetti's undoing in bad baseball games at times...but doesn't intrude so much into college BB and football.

And he worked his way up from bottom too...remember when Benetti was calling an Appalachian State game once and I stopped to listen because his call is so distinctive.

Does well with Bill Rafferty and Brock Huard.

I’m not sure how your follow-up question even relates to the Simpsons gif Tony posted or why you are specifically calling him out.  This is from Jason Benetti’s Wikipedia page:

Quote

Benetti was born ten weeks prematurely at the University of Chicago Hospital, where he remained for the first three months of his life. While in intensive care, Benetti developed a respiratory illness that deprived his blood of oxygen. He was later diagnosed with cerebral palsy as a toddler. Benetti underwent years of physical therapy and two surgeries to improve his ability to walk.

While I’m sure Benetti would rather not have to live his life with cerebral palsy, it sure hasn’t stopped him from being more successful than many people without a disability.  Schriffen has no disabilities that I am aware of and he’s still a worse baseball announcer than Benetti.

You know Schriffen has fantasy dreams just like this, and is all pissed off when he wakes up from them.

He was also (Schiffren) privileged enough to attend Dartmouth or a similarly elite East Coast school...

Yeah, he is a fantastic broadcaster, but I'd have a hard time with him being completely neutral on air with national broadcasts and then being completely for my team the other 75% of the time or whatever, and if his goal is to do national broadcasting full time it wasn't going to last anyway.

Still feels weird that he's in Detroit. Wonder how long that is going to last.

With the AL Central...pretty much guaranteed an interesting regular season with their spending and also less travel.

Most of his BB work is in the Midwest, but football he could be anywhere the Fox #2 team goes, mostly Big 12 this past season.

Probably less travel, closer to blue collar roots...he doesn't strike me as an East/West coast guy but money can change anyone a bit.

Maybe as he gets older he will prioritize a better weather city...without the brutal winters.  Ofc he can go anywhere during those months depending on his work schedule.

Schriffen did in fact attend Dartmouth.  Benetti attended S. I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University which I believe is still considered the best communications degree money can buy.
