Isn't that what minor league development is for? Can we realistically expect better play by Year 5?

We're already at 2.5 years btw.

This is also what happens when you mix together players from lots of other organizations.

also flirting with creating long term injuries

If he was running on the pitch it’s still a stolen base. And it’s passed ball not pass ball. And it wasn’t Peters’ ball, it was Acuna’s. Learn the game.

How some of you guys have watched baseball as long as you have and think that was Peters' ball is crazy. CF has the gaps. This is LL stuff. You have to back off as a corner guy if he misses it he miss

Reprinted from the wrong board.

At this stage in a rebuild, the bullpen should be scrap heap and our own prospects.
Getz, however, has put resources into this bullpen. There some scrap-heap, but it's not via the waiver wire - he traded for most of those scrap-heap guys. He signed free agents; he traded for Hicks' fat contract.
And where are the young prospects...the guys drafted 3 or 4 years ago and flamed out as starters? Well one, course, is on the Guardians...Getz chose to protect org guys over our own high draft choice who also happens to throw 98.
This bullpen is a mess and it's absolutely on Getz (not that that matters).
Good rebuilds take 3-4 years. This is year 3.

MLB run differential.

At least Hahn preferred tools, even if a guy had zero actually ability. Getz likes 1 tool players that can't play as a bonus. There's zero upside to most these guys, relievers, OF and SP. The only spots filled by young talent are guys you really can't miss on giving what we traded.

White Sox at -21 already have the worst rs/ra differential in mlb before Smith vs. Alcantara tmrw afternoon.

-14 is 29th.

Over one run per game spread from last to 29th.

It figures the White Sox finally bottom out properly in this era of the new draft rules. Oof.

Great post

It’s actually pretty impressive that Getz remade a really bad bullpen and somehow made it worse. Should have been difficult, but we got just the guy for the task.

Welp, that was a nice 3rd inning. Fedde looked okay. Outfield defense did him in. I clicked out of the game on CHSN, then back in, and decided I wasn't going back to watch the 3 innings I skipped over. Sounds like Quero had himself a game. In ways.

I think Pereira might just be their RF. Peters is okay as a 4th OF, but he's got to quell his CF instincts and let himself get called off. Pereira has done that consistently on close plays. Acuña's rough but could be fun if they work on his throwing. Paez looks overmatched. They'll probably look better with Baldwin and Teel back in the lineup.

We can still win the series tomorrow.

Have to be the worst pitching staff in the league

I can't believe Getz decided to draft a guy in the rule 5 draft who barely pitching in AA over keeping Peyton Pallette, a guy we drafted and who pitched pretty well out of the bullpen in the band box that is Charlotte

At this point laughing a bit more at the mets is the least of my concerns. I wish Robert well but he is what he is at this point. At least he had a monster opening couple games for them.

The CF we traded Robert away for almost killed his teammate in a collision. 🤣

That wasn't Acuña's fault, tho. That was his ball.

There’s nothing stopping either guy from warning the other guy. Someone has to do it.

Wilson was actually a pretty good 6th, 7th inning pitcher regardless of what this board thought of him. Palette would've been a nice replacement (2.45 ERA so far in 3.2 IP). Wikelman should be on the MLB team, DFA Hicks and just eat his contract.

Think the bullpen is still better than what it's shown, we've just been playing the worst guys in there. Leasure, Taylor, Newcomb are dudes. Dominguez is fine if he has a clean inning since he walks the world. Venable's bullpen management has been questionable since he got here.

Don't really expect much of a pitcher who makes the leap from A+ to MLB. They should hide him so he can develop, not give him the most appearances of anyone on the team. Especially in winnable games.

Honestly this is pretty normal rule 5 activity. Most of the guys picked are years away, if ever. If they were close and finished, they wouldn't be available. It's why the idea that the Sox had hacked Rule 5 after last year was so absurd. Smith was a once a decade pick. Really I am interested to see if we might be witnessing his regression to the mean just taking longer than normal.

I listened to part of the game on the radio. Every other commercial was from ambulance chasers....pretty sad they can't get any other sponsors.

Need more Binnys commercials with this bunch.

The CF is the leader out there. It's his job to take control.

Thing with Smith and Vasil is that they're 4 years older than Paez and went to college. More time to develop than an international guy signed at age 17 before being exposed to Rule 5. Same thing with Pallette who I wish was still on this team. All 3 were more or less ready to face MLB hitters, sink or swim.

Paez is an actual prospect unlike the other guys, who may indeed regress. Worth a shot and I don't wanna send him back, but I don't think he should be exposed this much this early. Wish he could hide on the injured list and go to AAA next year.

I was on an expansion pony league team who needed a sponsor. A lady down the street owned a bar but they couldn't put a bar name on the uniform of a bunch of middle schoolers....so they put "Stella's Fellas" on the back of our jerseys. And yes, the ribbing we got from other teams was merciless.
