Used to do this with just the lefty specialists. Now they're going after Toronto's RH hitters like Guerrero Okamoto etc.

  • Don't understand why the guy who lead the team in homers and RBIs last year doesn't play ...

Not sure I understand the point of a RHP opening for a different RHP. Unless Kay is the one starting.

Don't mind it at all. If you're starters suck, openers are the way to go.

Embarrassing crowd. Will they even get 20K today in actual seats occupied?

That would be bad since Kay is a LHP

I always think this is a league scheduling blame. They can make sure domes and warm weather states host for like the first couple weeks of April and I think the fans would get it. Every year we see the same damn thing when the season starts in Chicago during April

That's the idea of an opener, right? So that you can face the hitters with the same-handedness and get a matchup advantage. There's no matchup advantage if both pitchers are the same handedness. The point was made that the 'opener' is generally a lefty.

Right now, less than 1hr from first pitch.

Thank you for saying this. Get Sosa’s bat in the lineup.

I think the point here is to have a better pitcher face the first 3-6 hitters and give the "starter" a softer launch against the bottom of the order.

You use an opener to limit the amount of times the top of the order sees the starting pitcher. That is the general purpose, but there are other examples that enhance that possibly as you note.

If I remember right this was being done in the early 90's and then those teams that were in warm weather and or dome sites started complaining about all these April home games while school was still in session so MLB stopped it.

My response was "that's too bad" pay those teams x millions of dollars for the "inconvenience." It's better for the game, the athletes and most of all the fans who are paying the freight. Baseball shouldn't be played in 30-40 degree weather.

That's insane.

Can't blame the fans given the state of the franchise.

Raise volume first thing I hear is John talking up Sean Burke and then Stone doing his song and dance routine about a crap pitcher. I hate it here.

lol, "those six are behind us". Thanks Steve.

Worst camera work ever, holy s%*# this is brutal.

Great pitch, 99 on the inside corner.

Great inning kid, made vladdy like silly there.

Stretch out Taylor you dumb monkeys.
