JR speaks! (briefly)...

From the Sun-Times game recap from Friday:

"Reinsdorf has not done interviews in years, but he chatted briefly with an ink-stained acquaintance who said he last had spoken with him in a champagne-soaked clubhouse in 2005, when the Sox won the World Series,

‘‘A long time ago,’’ Reinsdorf said. ‘‘But it seems like yesterday. We need better pitching. The rest of the ballclub is OK, but we need pitching. And we need some wins.’’

And the South Side congregation said, ‘‘Amen.’’

Interesting point, JR. Didn't notice all those starting pitchers on the free agency market? Might've had to spend some money though.

Cool Jerry, why don't you allow the team to spend money to obtain said pitching

The Padres show that idea is dead.

Isn't the sale basically already worked out, though? I'd understand it if you were trying to get people interested.

That's kind of the Minnesota theory.

But then they basically just ended up selling minority shares to cancel $500 million of debt.

it takes more than money. This organization is not attractive enough

Money is a good place to start.

Also Murakami seemed to choose the White Sox over the Ugly Sox despite reportedly the same money.

Jerry,Jerry,Jerry. We need more pitching do we? What a concept! What an eye for baseball. It sure is a good thing we got such a solid baseball mind for an owner.

If the sale isnt happening till at least 2029 or even later if the plan is to sell when he dies, that means as long as he owns the team he is likely to have to pay the salaries of the players.

Having more relatively inexpensive contracts not longer than 2 years means he's saving around $100M per year ( current player payroll vs $185M payroll ).

Hey Jerry.....SELL. THE. TEAM. NOW!!!!**, not when you're pushing 100.

** actually, sell after the upcoming lockout is over. So not literally right now.

I wonder when he will head down to Springfield and try to work on the state to buy him some pitchers.

the needle in the haystack

player polls say differently

players look at the same social media stuff everyone does. what do they know. they like money and playing time, and have little insight unless they're actively interviewing with an organization.

I mean, if the Sox offer Framber Valdez in December the same contract Detroit did, is he gonna say no in the hopes of the Tigers matching three months later?
