Colson looked like he was a bust before he went to AZ last year. Then he came up and was awesome the last half of the season. This year he was doing great and then he went south. He has the bat speed and tools; it's almost like he needs a 6-month checkup to get straighten out.

Not knowing what happened last year, and seeing something similar happen again last year again brings the question, slump or back?

Sox don't think it's an injury, so I don't think it's fair to keep bringing that up even if there's a smidge of truth to it. Venable's comments today suggest it's 100% mental and he doesn't even need taken out of the lineup lol

I am also not willing to always take the Sox talking heads at their word.

Don't know how people can watch the Vargas progression and still rush to write guys off for having a down month or whatever

He never had a great season to come back to....and last year was relatively decent.

Usually goes to guys coming off major injuries or under performance...like Raleigh hitting 50+ honors again next year.

Because most people who fail like that at baseball never bounceback. He is the exception, not the rule.

The "big three" all hitting under .250 now with two of them hitting .217 or worse. Home runs are nice, not knocking them but solo home runs don't do a lot of good and with those low batting averages a lot of scoring chances are being wasted.

With the HRs tonight:

• Sox become the first team in MLB with two 30+ HR hitters this season

• Colson first primary SS to 30 HR this season

• First time Sox have had multiple 30 HR guys since 2019

• Vargas has just the third 30 HR/30 double season from a 3B in Sox franchise history (Ventura, Crede)

• Colson 3rd youngest Sox with a 30+ HR season

And generally with Sox pitching hitting three solo home runs a game are nice but probably won't be enough to consistently win.

I've never been an advocate for the 'home run or nothing' philosophy from hitters and the Sox 'big three' are falling into that trap in my opinion.

As others have stated especially with two strikes, shorten up the swing and try going the other way, put the ball in play.

Both Vargas and Mune went oppo for their 30th HR. Most of Mune's HR's have been oppo lately. Maybe that's why he's slumping . He's expanding his zone trying to please people who say he has to go the other way. He was doing fine with lift and pull.

Indeed. This is a team that thought it was wise to acquire a 33-year old former ace in the middle of a 5+ ERA season to fix him during their playoff hunt. Pitching was needed and is still needed. They unfortunately picked the wrong guy.

Vargas 4.6 1.4 increase

Peters 3.9 1.4 increase

Meidroth 3.5 1.0 increase

Braden .5 -.6 decrease

Might be time to get Peters and Meidroth more time closer to the top or middle of the order. Spreading them out makes it harder to bunch hits, walks and HR's together.

Ok so ? Yes better stats often lead to better teams. if you're not going to hit for average might as well hit for power. It's why they are where they are. Maybe Meidroth, Antonacci and Peters at the top and the HR guys 4, 5, 6. or 3, 4, 5.

Well the real problem is that feast or famine high k high hr total teams often don't fare well in the playoffs against elite pitching.

I don't see a problem when there's a possibility to make the playoffs when you weren't expected to even come close. Yes I don't think they are a real contender to win the World Series nor would they be even if they got Skubal at the deadline.

Were you expecting a long playoff run ?

Just because I count my blessings and see a lot of good doesn't mean I don't see flaws. They just aren't my focus every time I think about the White Sox.
