Peyton Pallette likely to be returned to Sox

Featured Replies

Was DFA’d by the Guardians. Unless they work out a deal or he’s claimed on waivers by another team willing to roster him, he’ll be back.

As a name from the past, Dayán Viciedo is retiring. I had no clue he played 11 years in Japan after leaving the Sox/MLB after 2015.

Incorrect. He has to be offered back to Sox before other teams can claim him, being a rule 5 pick

Fun fact….I own a Viciedo jersey! Thought he was going to be the real deal and bought one in my younger years. Who would have thought him and Tank Johnson on the Bears would have both flopped?

Cleveland picked up Pallette from the White Sox in the Rule 5 draft. As part of the standard DFA process, the club has five days to trade him or place him on waivers. If another team makes a move to add Pallette, they’ll take on the Rule 5 requirements. If Pallette passes through waivers, he’ll be offered back to Chicago.

Guardians Designate Peyton Pallette For Assignment, Recal...

The Guardians have made a bullpen move, designating Peyton Pallette for assignment and recalling Logan Allen.

Am I wrong in remembering he was looking good early this season?

Edited by wegner

Pallette does not throw enough strikes. That has been his problem for a while. Once mlb hitters figured that out, he was toast. I hope he figures it out, but he nibbles with breaking stuff rather than attacking the zone early and then using spin to finish guys off. 16 bb in 20 IP just not gonna cut it.

I wasn’t really following him, but I do seem to remember a decent amount of Getz hate for making a stupid move to leave Pallette exposed.

Looked bad at first but we’re seeing why they didn’t protect him. AAAA guy unless he learns to control the zone better

For me, the issue was using two 40 man spots on Rule 5 guys without options while letting the Guardians get a chance to work their magic with Pallette who had options left. And honestly, I stand by the criticism, even if relatively small in the grand scheme of things.

I get what you’re saying, and I honestly don’t think Peyton Pallettte is worthy of an on going discussion…BUT is it not possible that the Sox internal scouting was correct? I don’t think it should be considered a mistake to prefer to gamble on an arm you don’t know vs 1 the team has been developing and knows isn’t remotely consistent enough to be productive.

Sox send a sleeper agent to undermine and steal info from our division rival and you're mad?

That's half of the Sox pitching staff right now (3/4?).
That said, they didn't protect him when they had plenty of room, so I guess they don't want him back.

They wouldn’t have to add him to the 40-man, so I don’t see why they wouldn’t take him back.

Someone is not paying close enough attention (GS) to their lack of middle relief options available internally right now.

Hopefully he can take advantage of the new opportunity with Sox.

If they were that high on Peoples or whoever, they would probably be up right now already.

They will certainly take him back for $25k

Maybe the one number in mlb that hasn't inflated in the past thirty years or so...

And don’t have to add to 40-man so definitely.

Exactly.
