That's how we roll

Vargas spent time last winter with underload/overload bat training to increase bat speed. It paid off. Vargas added 3.3 mph to his bat speed, the biggest jump in MLB along with Cam Smith of the Astros. He also changed his setup to be more upright with his bat flatter as a precursor to springing into his legs as he loads. Toss in a more stable base (no more back foot sliding out) and a career .204 hitter is posting an .848 OPS and leading the league in runs.

He's gonna be a top 3 MVP finisher this year.

Crazy that I didn’t even consider that for him. That’s great. Wanted to suggest that might not be true, but only Yordan and Caminero for sure would be above him.

I think the vargas trade is going to go down as one of the most important trades this franchise ever made. He's a generational talent. He can pretty much do everything on a baseball diamond outside of pitching. As great as the Crochet trade was, Vargas will be a regular MVP contender.

He went on that insane tear just as voters got their ballots. He won't win but I think he'll get third place. Vargas was the kind of player that Hahn failed to get in the first rebuild. A slugger with high OBP and speed. Also someone who stays healthy and gives maximum effort.

He needs to be extension candidate 1

Ya. Honestly think he's worth $150 to $200 million. And I don't think the money would go to his head.

Dude hits arb years next year. He may be looking at a number that starts with a 3 in the post arb years. With his health he could push a decade too.

Maybe one of the only good things about those 100 loss teams is it allowed Miguel to stay in the daily lineup and reach his potential. The White Sox had the luxury, I guess, to let him become The Miguel Vargas. Plus I understand he is just a great guy. He is definitely easy to root for which is nice.

if we ever had captains again, he'd be the captain.

Read here on the site where supposedly the Sox talked with him about this and he said 'no.'

If JR stills owns the club when he hits the market you can say 'so long' to him given what he may be asking for.

I read the same article right before the start of the season. I think I even posted it here. My guess is that the Sox either tried to low-ball him on the extension or he just trusts in his own talent and potentially wants to take it all the way to free agency for a much larger payday. At this point, it looks like a very wise decision by him.

It's a theme, but it would be a complex contract to get done. You have three arb years to get done, and then you are into free agent years. The balancing act becomes does Vargas want to give up FA years, and how many years are the Sox willing to buy out, and at what price. Does Vargas seem himself as a 30 to 40 million dollar a year player? Does he just want to get to FA (he's halfway there now) and see what happens?

I think the true hold up is the CBA, impending lockout, and how they can figure out how to correctly work the CBA to their benefit with a new contract.

Honestly if I were a player I would be trying like crazy to get a deal done before those, because they sure sound like they want to destroy the market. Hell maybe that is the separation between the two parties, who knows.
