To buy or sell...

They are still too far away on the pitching side. If Schultz came up and just took the league by storm, that would have changed the equation, but they just don't have the arms.

Getz has a tricky rope to walk (assuming they are still playing competitive ball around the deadline) but I would not move assets for a one year rental. If there is a player available to bring into the "core", and it happens to be at the deadline, so be it.

No rush to do anything imo. Just enjoy the ride.

  • Peters has played gold glove defense. Offensively he has hit close to .300 and many of those hits have been in clutch situations. Vargas is hitting clutch bombs and hits all the while playing gold gl

Got a good month + before you even should be thinking about it. And it's all without Murakami. They're not buying . This team still has a lot of roster churn in it .They've had too many injuries and

I don't think there is any doubt you trade for Skubal and go all-in on this team.

I've said for years while this board was saying 'Getz is a nightmare he can't ever add' I said 'in 2026 we will be a few games over five hundred and Getz is going to add' and now here we are and the same people are saying 'oh we should sell'? That ta-reeks of hypocrisy

Unless you are giving up multiple Top 5, plus additional Top 10 guys, I don't think it happens. Say something like Bonemer, Hagen and Fauske, and a tailend filler piece.

Don't like that idea either . Why give up minor league depth for someone who will be here at the longest 4 months (July through Oct , early trade and playoff run but likely just 2+ months ,August to the rest of the regular season or an early playoff exit). Unless you're giving up the excess 40 man ( Hays, Pereira, Hill, Acuna, Grichuk, Romo, Nishida, Benintendi, Fedde, Tyler Davis, Tyler Gilbert, Trevor Richards, Brandon Eisert, Jordan Hicks ) or extra relief pitchers types (Pallette, Schoenele, Peoples ) not on the 40.

Sox actually have 48 on the 40 man roster but because 8 are on the 60 day DL they don't count but they can be traded. (Thorpe, Bush , Vasil, Leasure, Berroa, Baldwin, Teel, Tanner Murray). Or you could trade some triple A guys on the 40 like SP Joe Rock, Shane Smith, Chris Murphy , Tyler Schweitzer, Jonathan Cannon, Junior Perez, Wikelman Gonzalez. I don't know all the ins and out of trading injured minor leaguers since there are guys like Alexander Albertus who the Sox got from the Dodgers but was injured a long time after being acquired.

I just named 32 guys (not counting Albertus). By August 1st I'm guessing at least 5 of them are no longer on the White Sox. Some of them like Teel or Shane Smith might be safe but others I didn't mention like Sandlin and Davitt may not be. But most are the guys who you could possibly move among those deemed near MLB ready and MLB players.

Because this positional group is legit and you need to augment it some with a few pitching additions. Build some momentum and try to sneak your way into the playoffs. The goodwill from doing so will pay off immensely come this offseason. There is certainly a way to buy without crippling your long term plans.

Kelenic, Lamont Wade, Jr. and Oliver Dunn are already gone and anyone else from the AAA roster beside top pitching prospects (maybe) could be moved also as could plenty of names from below AAA . Makes more sense to say all but perhaps 15 guys in the minors could be traded. Which 15 I could only guess at.

Not sure who the biggest name on your list would be , maybe Gabe Davis or Boston Smith atm.

There are very few guys at AAA with much value. Regardless, the nine guys I picked all should have some value, you aren’t selling low on them (assuming Bergolla is healthy), and aren’t critical for our near-term future. Adams is the one possible exception, but given the 40 man congestion he might be a guy the Sox look to sell.

As for who is the best of the guys mentioned, I think Davis is probably the most valuable chip given his ceiling. Bergolla is a top 10 guy by many publications, but he’s much more floor than upside. Shelton had some real helium after his torrid start in W-S, but his AA debut so far has probably cooled things down a bit. To me, those are probably the three guys I expect to have the most trade value come the deadline, but a lot could change between now and then.

I wonder if Montgomery will platoon and face mostly RHP and Grichuk against LHP. That would be a pretty lethal combination assuming Montgomery takes to the big leagues.
