I dunno why it's more of a pointless waste of time than any post on a baseball forum. But I won't feel slapped in the face if they don't trade Carlson for 30 innings of a 5th starter.

Clearly the only option.

They should and I almost guarantee they will. To what extent, we shall see. To suggest selling when you’re in first place is insane though. Are we White Flag fans or White Sox fans?

Read my initial response to you. That’s my stance. If that’s too hard to wrap your head around, god bless you. Have a good day.

Relax. pal.

Sox should be adding, shopping in the rental market. An opportunity is an opportunity, and a playoff appearance is meaningful to the fanbase, the players on the team, and the bottom line.

They should absolutely not be trading top prospects, for all the usual reasons plus the fact that this is not the year to be paying extra for a player with an additional year or two of control, as there is a very real possibility of losing next year.

Singer and Robbie Ray for rentals. Singer has been a career second half pitcher.

Don't deplete prospects for players with expiring contracts after 2027 --- too high risk with no guaranteed season.

What a stupid question

Not really. It all depends on the cost.

No it is stupid. What kind of precedent would it send by standing pat? Not a good one at all. They have no choice. Plus they are in 1st place.

The arguments of well they are ahead of schedule or not contenders fall flat when you have the 2027 potential non season and are in the lead for the division right now.

Even giving up a guy like Carlson for a rental is not something the Sox should simply jump to do to improve this year’s team only. This team currently has no catcher and an extremely questionable rotation, even if all of their starters were healthy. And the starters that are being rumored of the Sox interest aren’t going to improve this team enough to do dick in the postseason. Let’s be honest. If they can obtain some rentals without giving up any top prospects, sure go for it.

How in gods green earth do you know any of that? Do you see into the future?

Everyone that watches any kind of sports should know if you make it into the playoffs weird stuff can happen. Hot streaks happen all the time. Especially in this sport when rosters are shifting constantly and guys play better.

And I got some really bad news for you. 2027 isn't guarenteed they will be in better position or the same position. #1 there might be no baseball or in best case scenario a shortend season. #2 you think the other teams are going to stand pat? Division will be swaping team positions like it always does.

Here's what they don't need to do. Take this year for granted like you and so many others are willing to do.

No one is saying they should trade Carlson for a rental. In fact, the only rental who would probably that kind of prospect is Skubal.

Also what kind of precedent does that make and what kind of message does that send when you do absolutely nothing for the players on this team?

They'll say all the right things after the trade deadline if they did that. But you don't think they will be thinking that upper management doesn't have enough faith in them to make an impact this season if they don't add players?

It’s called being realistic. If you honestly think this current rotation has a legitimate shot in the postseason, you aren’t being honest with yourself. I also said, if you want to trade any non-top prospects for some rentals, or guys under control for the future, go ahead. But I wouldn’t add to this team at the cost of any top prospects.

Sure, but I think even the decent starter names being bandied about will cost them a Carlson.

Maybe it's just me but I'm tired of the defeatist attitude. Any team that makes the playoffs has a good chance of making the World Series. You need to get there and take advantage of it while you are in position.

Agreed. The idea that this is just the beginning is not something any Sox fan should believe. If this team won 75 games next year, i dont think anyone would be shocked. Make the most of your opportunities while also trying to improve the roster wholes this team has on the pitching side.

Make the most of the limited opportunities you have. Most of the Sox current prospects will turn into nothing.

To play devils advocate, they are in first place and many people around here think they are one of the best teams in the AL. Why would anyone on this team be insulted if they don't make any meaningful additions?

Im all for adding players that can help, but it would be ridiculous to trade any of our top prospects to chase one season in this teams current state. If the goal was to build a sustained winner while being able to reinforce your roster from your minors, they are headed in the right direction. It would just be so foolish to do anything to compromise that plan for this season.

Here's a question. What's with the extremes on trading players? It seems binary with some people. Either we do nothing and we keep everyone or we make a trade and it's going to be the most painful thing in the universe? I'm willing to bet Carlson doesn't get traded. But outside of trading him and Caleb Bonemer would trading anyone else be doom and gloom?

Because they are humans. They will see other teams adding esepcially and probably teams in our division gearing up for a run and say why aren't we doing that? Chris Getz is a former player. You think he's going to walk into that locker room and go well I didn't believe in this team enough to add anyone sorry. Keep doing what your doing.

Why wouldn't we buy? Sox are two games up in the division and three games up in the WC.

This offense can 100% win the AL. If they figure out the starting pitching, they can make some noise and be a legitimate threat.

And this is still a team that isn’t going to spend in free agency, at least until the new owner takes over, which still may not be for a few more years. They can’t afford to trade away their top talent considering they don’t spend much in free agency. What are they at right now? A $90 million dollar payroll?

I can't find the tweet anymore, but in 2017 the Sox had ten prospects in the Top 100.

Nothing is guaranteed.

Or he walks into the locker room and says I believe in the group of guys we have, didn't feel like we needed to make any major additions.

Of course it wouldn't be doom and gloom, but for an organization that doesn't shell out major money you need all the shots you get from your farm system. I would hate to see them trade anyone in our top 10-12 prospects for some rental guy, but its not going to ruin my life.

This really isn't that complicated.

There have been zero indications that Getz is willing to move top prospects for a rental. In fact, the report published yesterday said literally the exact opposite. And obviously, that's smart business.

If there is a player on the market that has multiple years left, that fills a hole on this team for 2026, and can be counted on in future seasons, that player will come at a higher cost, but given this team doesn't really spend in free agency, making an "offseason acquisition" now makes sense.

They need to add, and I'll be shocked if they don't.

This is such a weird year. The team has largely overachieved, and has a ton of issues that are going to crop up over the next couple of months. They have a ton of players they have to make room for from the 60 day DL, and every player added from the outside complicates that math. There are about half a dozen guys on the 60 day who might show back up. Add four outside players (2 SP, 1 RP, and a C) and you now have 10 40 man roster slots to account for in the next month or so.

We also have plenty of pitchers who are hitting the upper limits of their innings histories, on a staff that is already short handed. Can they continue to achieve at that level? I don't know. The other side is I don't know who is demonstrably better. Both the AL Central and the AL are weirdly low this year. We all know the story of the last rebuild where all of these guys were primed for a long run atop the division, and then they all flamed out under Tony. Could it happen again? Who knows. If you push in for this year, and the young pitching runs out of gas, as it well could, will you miss the guys you dealt in the future?

I have no idea what I would be doing right now as GM. There are plenty of reasons to go for it, and there are plenty of reasons to do as little as possible to get by.
