Frankly I think Eric just missed here, and that's going to happen when you are trying to scout 500 guys to make a top 100 list as a random writer. Sure he's talented at what he does, but he's just one guy, same as Law, except at least with law he seems to want to see guys in person. Eric just looks at spreadsheets and reads primary accounts. If I'm wrong someone call me out, but I don't recall reading many first hand reports from him over the last decade at FGs.
12 hours ago12 hr Jimmy Wammo seems to think they're fast tracking this dude. I don't know if he means that's what they've done so far (he's been in A, A+ and AA this season), or if he expects this guy to be up in the near future. He's been kind of cheeks in AA so far.

If he develops as a serviceable defensive catcher, he has huge potential.

Meanwhile he will be able to make an impact in our bullpen down the stretch I think.

Hendricks wasn't striking people out in the minors, his entire game had always been inducing weak contact and getting the edges of the plate extended. I'm not sure Kyle Hendricks would succeed today the same way he did a decade ago even with the new strike zone changes. He was a heavy ground ball pitcher who never ever walked anyone. 2.1 BB/9 for his entire MLB career with some years under 1.6! Thorpe isn't running walk rates anywhere near that in the minors even.There's been one version of a righty throwing 90 MPH who has succeeded in the last 20+ years. Forecasting and projecting this guy to be another one seems like a reach. Especially with Thorpe generating a lot more fly balls, giving more free passes and relying so much on missing bats in the minors.
