Inexplicable. Saw that and posted on it the other day. FGs has some strange evals at times. They had him 33rd preseason.

He's only a 150 wRC+ player In AA at 20 years old. No big deal.

Yes, that would rank him first in the southern league as one of the younger players in the league.

He's doing things at his age that usually get analytics oriented scouts quite excited. Frankly I think Eric just missed here, and that's going to happen when you are trying to scout 500 guys to make a top 100 list as a random writer. Sure he's talented at what he does, but he's just one guy, same as Law, except at least with law he seems to want to see guys in person. Eric just looks at spreadsheets and reads primary accounts. If I'm wrong someone call me out, but I don't recall reading many first hand reports from him over the last decade at FGs.

Jimmy Wammo seems to think they're fast tracking this dude. I don't know if he means that's what they've done so far (he's been in A, A+ and AA this season), or if he expects this guy to be up in the near future. He's been kind of cheeks in AA so far.

he can replace Romo already…

Nashville Sounds have a position player pitching the top of the 9th with the team only down by 1. What a joke to be charging admission and do that. At least the kid on the bump seems to be giving about 70% effort.

That's disappointing. I don't think he'll ever be better than a #4 or #5 guy with that velocity.

I think he can very much be a Kyle Hendricks type - which is pretty darn solid and valuable.

Any word on Fauske? He’s been out of the lineup this week.

I sure hope so. The margin of error for a guy throwing 90-91 is just small. He'll needs great command and good secondaries. Hendricks had elite command.

And Boston Smith with an absurd 199 wRC+ in AA. That's through 20 games via fangraphs. It's probably at 200 after his 3-5 game tonight (game 21). What a freak the guy has been in his first season of milb ball. 22 HRs in 77 games so far.

When does this guy become a for real prospect? He's 23, so it's not like he's old for AA, especially as a catcher.

I really think his bat will play at the MLB level.

Where does he land on the field is the question. If he develops as a serviceable defensive catcher, he has huge potential.

Bonemer bomb. Unreal.

Please don't trade him, White Sox!

it's possible but that requires pinpoint command (and, of course, great control). Does Thorpe have that?

McDougal had a nice outing for Charlotte. Not sure what their plans are for him, but he was a name earlier in the season.

McDougall is a long term front of the rotation starter if his arm is healthy. Meanwhile he will be able to make an impact in our bullpen down the stretch I think.

Thorpe's start

Not to be a downer, I just dont know that this matters at all. Thorpe has always been dominant in the minors. His problem is big leaguers dont respect the fastball and it destroys the value of the change.

I get why people make this comp since they're both soft tossing righties with change ups as their best pitch, but I don't think Thorpe and Hendricks are all that similar. Hendricks wasn't striking people out in the minors, his entire game had always been inducing weak contact and getting the edges of the plate extended. I'm not sure Kyle Hendricks would succeed today the same way he did a decade ago even with the new strike zone changes. He was a heavy ground ball pitcher who never ever walked anyone. 2.1 BB/9 for his entire MLB career with some years under 1.6! Thorpe isn't running walk rates anywhere near that in the minors even.

There's been one version of a righty throwing 90 MPH who has succeeded in the last 20+ years. Forecasting and projecting this guy to be another one seems like a reach. Especially with Thorpe generating a lot more fly balls, giving more free passes and relying so much on missing bats in the minors.

Yeah I think it was a positive step even though he doesn’t look quite ready yet.

Charlotte stats can be deceiving. Without being there, it's hard to know if a hit would be an out somewhere else.

Also Hendricks was amazing, obviously he'd be a great outcome.

If we get 20 starts and a 4.5 ERA out of Thorpe one year I'd call that a win at this point. But I don't expect much.

I think Thorpe gets severly slept on here. Before his elbow blew up (wasn't it rumored his 2nd to last start?) - He had 1 start out of his first 7 that was over 2 earned runs (and it was a blow up of 7) and also every one of those starts were 3 or less hits.. I think he can be a serious guy though I assume the advanced stats will never love him due to his velo.

I mean he's not dead or anything, but because of the type of stuff he has his window for success is much more narrow than most. His stuff has to be more perfect, and he has less room for loss within it.

Good call on Hendricks and the impact ABS would have had on him. He always got a few inches off the corner.

I think he showed when his command was there at the big league level his stuff played just fine, but he still had to tighten that command up a bit more to have sustained success at the big league level. And it isn't that his command was bad, but early on as a rookie I think he had the typically rookie struggle where you over threw a bit and hadn't yet settled. Plus it takes a bit to really learn how to make adjustments against big leaguers as well. I think a healthy Thorpe has a very clear floor as a #3 or #4 starter. Dude is a very solid pitcher. I also don't think he has much chance of being a #1 or #2 to be clear.

Ive posted this, but during that "good stretch" he was k'ing 6 guys per 9 and walking 4. No one is succeeding in MLB as a starter with that type of split.

Problem i have is there's just no comp for success that I can find in the modern game. It means he needs to be a unicorn which I'm inherently skeptical of. Impossible? Of course not. Thats the great thing about baseball.

Longenhangen says Bonemer dropped because he worries Bonemer won't even be able to cut it at 3B and due to worries about his whiff rate. Unfortunately I feel the same way. Since ignorance is bliss, I wish I hadn't watched Bonemer play and just looked at the stats. But I hope we're both wrong!
