Packaging him for who though? There's got to be a specific player in mind that is actually available. Do you swap Colson 1 for 1 for Hunter Goodman or Detmers? I wouldn't. And I'd like to see Goodman on the team. Do you trade him for a couple months of Skubal?

According to some general principle, every player on the team should be 'available', but trading a stud player just for the sake of it strike me as shortsighted, especially if the rationale is "we just drafted a shortstop".

I see Colson is back in the clean up spot tonight, a mistake in my book.

Colson has been instructed to always get his “A” swing off and your recommendation is the solution… but ONLY during situational spots that have been weighing us down offensively.

RISP with less than two outs.

We need the entire team to really focus on situational swings from here on out for that scenario.

Games in August and September leading into the playoffs really mean a ton for our Sox. If they start to shine in a stat that has been a black eye so far, we’ll be much more likely to squeak out more close games.

It also will be good practice for post season play and help them all take the next step up maturity wise.

Hope we see Colson moved down to the 5 hole while he works on this because his strikeouts really have been too much of a boon at the cleanup spot.

He’s streaky and he is young. Not a finished product. The only intention of this thread was to suggest a move down one spot in the lineup while he works on evolving one approach to his offensive game.

The Sox, at 21-15, currently have the second best record in one-run games in the AL and fourth best in all of MLB. The Sox 21 one-run wins is the most in the majors.

The black eye isn’t their preformance in close games - it is their production with RISP and less than two outs.

If they had better production in that regard, they’d likely be something like 28-8 in one run games and our division lead would be somewhere around 5 games.

A troubling stat is that Colson has never hit over.250 in any season above A ball going on 6 years! Will so much SS talent in the system, his Sox (&MLB) future could be short-lived if he can't figure out how to hit in professional baseball. His swing has become so reckless and he is completely lost at the plate.

You’re projecting them to have a .777 winning percentage in one-run games. That would be the best winning percentage in the history of the game (Rangers 36-11 in 2016). The Sox have also scored the most runs in the AL. They’re doing something right!

He's not hurt. His swing speed is the same as it it's been and the play he made in the 10th isn't made with a bad back. He's just an extremely pull happy power hitter that to this point in his career has not been able to adjust to the adjustments. His true talent is probably like 3 WAR. He was playing like a 6 WAR superstar for 50 games, things happen.

Hell just two weeks ago it looked like Chase Meidroth was gonna finish around 1.5 fWAR, now he's cruising towards 3+. Players rise and fall. Right now Colson is falling, but it's not forever.

It’s pretty simple. The 15 games we lost by a run would have likely been impacted at least half the time if they wouldn’t have stranded RISP so much.

So I’m not looking at winning percentages or history - I’m looking at the probability that the one run games they lost.

It is by no means a stretch to say that they would have won a lot of those games if their situational execution was vastly improved.
