Adams will definitely struggle at some point and it could be very soon, especially while pitching home games at Coors. But all those years of control over what could be a competent starter for Doyle is just sickening to think about.

They are directly related though. Once Getz acquired Castillo, he thought he was free to deal one of their starter options in Adams. But it turned into a double whammy of suckitude because Getz would have been better off just throwing Adams in the rotation over acquiring Castillo and not trading for Doyle altogether.

Yep. If no one had traded for Doyle by the deadline, I’m pretty convinced he ends up being a non-tender in the offseason. Getz could have had him for a song next offseason if he still even wanted him that badly.

I keep going back to this — Getz wanted to get a starter with ace potential. He also knew there was no chance in hell under Jerry’s payroll that he would ever be able to sign a true younger ace free agent to a massive deal. So he went for the former ace thinking his staff could fix him on a short term and cheapish deal once he dumped Seranthony in the trade.

Castillo definitely would have been thrown on waivers like Robert. Doyle might have as well.

Almost a certainty given JR's philosophy on pitchers contracts.

I definitely think a case could be made that both Castillo and Doyle come cheaper in the off season than at the TDL

Realistically, does Castillo have ANY value in the off-season? Nobody would take him for free given his contract and his performance.

And didn't get the deal across the goal line in the end.

Other than Skubal, nobody else fits the bill this off season and the struggles of Imai in Houston make adding one of 2-3 potential NPB starters unlikely.

They probably will sign 1-2 NPB/Korean returning busted MLB prospects like Fedde/Kay/Griffin.

I've thought Getz was doing OK until this deadline fiasco. Even the one player who was having a good year

tanked the second he got here. No idea why he wanted Castillo or the centerfielder. Now our minor league

is a lot thinner to boot. Disastrous moves. Ishbia will show him the door on the first day he's in charge.

I'll be curious how history eventually judges the "worst" trade:
