Missing: Will Venable's Ballsack

Featured Replies

When will this dude stand up for his players? We've been getting boned left and right lately and it really cost us. The umpire forgetting it was 2-2 and giving us a 3-1 count. Multiple bogus ass HBPs that went against us. The questionable pitch clock violation. Will needs to get out there and give the umpires the business.

There's nothing he can do about those things TBH. He challenged the HBP and he lost. His fight is with some nerd at MLB for making that call as it's not the UMPS who decides. He also can't do anything about the 3-1 count thing. They can't change it. There are times I do want hiM to get tossed but those times seem pointless.

That's not his personality it seems.

Arguing and getting thrown out to motivate the behavior of players and umpires seems like last century thinking.

Does work better in basketball...

I think Venable’s nutsack is probably lost in the couch cushions along with Getz’s trade deadline brain.

I remember Robin Ventura getting criticized for the same thing.

I’d settle for him not getting frightened at the beginning of the sixth inning with our starter on a low count

And it must have been justified given the chaos in the locker room. the controversies regarding challenging calls, the Sale/Eaton comments, the entire LaRoche and his kid embarrassment.

And by the end of his tenure it was clear he didn't even want to be there.

Everything that we have heard points to Venable commanding a lot of respect in that clubhouse.

Will is not a Lou Piniella.

He may command a lot of respect, but his roster construction, and in game managing decisions leave a lot to be desired. IMO.

Hey sometimes a coach needs a football mentality to fire up players who have fallen into a malaise.

A bit of anger directed at an ump even if uts pretend anger gets the players on the front step of the dugout.

I keep thinking these guys are adults with families and shouldn't need someone yelling at regulators to motivate them to work. How would you react if your boss started yelling at other people.

we need that this thread blows meme

Will should start looking ahead at which crew will be umping the Sox upcoming series. Then, he should go and sleep with the wives of the umpires before the series. This will give him the upper hand on the umps before the series even starts

This is sports not accounting. Plus you're not even taking into consideration the scenario. Another member who has an important job but is nowhere near the main attraction is imposing his will with questionable decision making making things difficult on YOUR guys who are visibly bothered. These regulators know that being yelled at is part of their job and its been that way for 150 years. Since when do leaders of young men not support their THEIR guys in this situation ? The guys running the whole show can't fire your manager for a few cross words. It's expected behavior. Not saying he has to get thrown out just show some passion.

I'm not putting a lot of blame on Venable here and you don't want to appear as if you're cracking under pressure but show a pulse.

It still seems really old school in the era of managing by computer. Are there any stats that shows that players play better after their manager yells at an umpire? It seems like someone should be able to run an analysis to determine when he should yell and how long.

Just don't utilize AI to research that...how MLB HQ can police that?

Well I guess it's supposed to be a ban on using it for in-game decision making...
