He’s just about at the Mendoza line and of the regulars including Beni and Grichuk his OPS is only better than B. Montgomery.

Sam has to stop the elbow business; it's not playing hard it's playing dirty. I didn't like it when he elbowed Contreas at first base in Boston, or last night at second base, just stop doing it .

Truly believe if he used the whole field, it would make him such a better hitter. He’s such an extreme pull hitter now, as all his homers seem to be right by the foul pole. I understand there will be a ton of strikeouts and a lot of homers, but the non-home run contact seems to be quite poor. I can’t even remember last time he just lined a ball to center for a single. Same with Murakami (and Vargas if I’m being honest)

It's cheap. Look an actual take out slide at (or around) the base is a well established part of the game. An elbow to the crotch is just a cheap shot.

Yes. And they are tied with the Cubs for the season series. They play this weekend. They take 2 of 3 and they win that series. Pirates are 5 out but taking 2 of 3 would effectively put them at 2 games out. I know we joke about but I really think the cubs could miss the playoffs. The bullpen is in free fall right now.

Again, it's a cheap play. Why do it at all? If you want to affect the play, use a real baseball play and do a take out slide. Why do you need your elbow there in the first place?

It was a stupid, unnecessary, and cheap play from a guy who now has a reputation for doing stuff like this.

If you want to break up a double play, do it like dudes have been doing it for 150 years. Your elbow doesn't need to be around another players crotch for any baseball reason.

Like it or not it seemed to ignite the team and the offense enough to look like they were actually trying near the end of that game.

Sometimes you need a spark. It is what it is. Can't let feelings get in the way.

You do it because your team needs a spark and maybe a benches clearing nothingburger provides that spark. He wasn't trying to hurt anyone or actually make it a tough play. He seems to do this stuff when we're getting steamrolled, first against Boston now against these guys. This team needs to wake the f*** up. With a little extra luck, we are tying that game or taking the lead (On Meidroth's .800 xBA line drive) AFTER Sam did this. It did seem to provide a spark. Let's not be soft as baby s%*# about this and understand that sometimes you just gotta get your hands dirty when you're competing in sports.

The play IS baby soft. If you want dirty, roll the fielder on the slide like a real baseball play. This is fake tough. Like I am trying, but also not. It's like sticking your leg out on a screen. There is a right way to do things and trying to wing someone isn't it. Be better.

I am not a proponent of attempting to injure another teams player to rile up your team. I would argue that deliberately rolling over the 2nd basement is even more "fake tough" than the chicken wing, because at that point you're being very irresponsible with your baseball moves. We don't need to be actually dirty, just enough to ruffle some feathers.
