Devil’s advocate….we can’t hit lefties for s%*#. Our lineup tonight is trash. We came into this game with a low chance of success. So try to get as deep into the game as possible before having to decide whether he needs to hurn any good relievers.

I disagree with this thought process, but it’s the only one I can come up with to explain his decision to start with an opener.
