Thorpe potentially up tomorrow?

Featured Replies

I hope he’s up!

today's transactions :

Tyler Davis activated from the bereavement list

Tyler Davis optioned to Charlotte

Risky time for Thorpe; I think I'd rather Cannon.
Either way, glad to see one of these guys up.

Cannon I don't trust, if the Sox were up 8 games I would welcome him up.

Thorpe is now listed as Charlotte's probable so Sox seem to be planning to option him. I assume the Urquidy DFA is partly motivated by making room for him on the 40.

They’ve been putting this kid on hold for awhile. Do they not believe?

I wonder if they want to keep Thorpe in the minors so he can pitch and get innings next year in the minors in case of a lockout.

That makes sense but when the lockout starts on December 1, it could impact minor league players as well since if I remember right, they are now also represented by the MLBPA.

I think a big part is his stuff isn’t a power arm, he never was gonna blow it past people. So you need to make sure his secondary pitches are up to snuff

Yeah this is true. Last Lockout would have only impacted minor leaguers on the 40-man roster.

Dude is fresh off of TJS and was a rookie with 4 starts before it. Even if he was experienced, he would still be in his first starts off of TJS which is asking a lot of people. He's also a dude who even last time around was learning on the job with zero pressure.

He'd be on the 40-man so a lockout would prevent him from pitching in the minors.

That was correct last lockout. Now there would be no minor league season as minor leaguers are now part of MLBPA.

It's still separate. There would still be a minor league season, everyone on a 40-man is part of the ML union so they couldn't participate. Non 40-man players are in the MiLB Union. JJ Cooper lays everything out here.

Hm. I could have sworn I read that that wasn't the case anymore. Thanks for sharing.

Thorpe starting now, wasn't scratched. Seems like he's staying down

OK, held them to one run.

Brazoban down there as well

gave up a run in 4-2 loss

Activated and optioned today. Do we see a phantom IL stint for a pitcher and call him up next time through the rotation?

Thought I read he’s done for season.
