Fire Derek Shomon

Right on the mark.

I think the twins were wrong to do what they did. We have been begging for a hitting coach like Shomon. We get one and we want to fire him. If I have to sit through the bullshit of 2022, where we ranked #1 in batting average and had multiple .300 hitters but no 20 home run hitters, I will lose my s%*#.

  • They also led the AL in walks and were second in OBP. Just too many guys too raw for the big moment. Hope this season gives them a head start on learning what that next step takes, but I don't think t

  • Yeah let’s fire the coach of the offense that scored the most runs in the AL based on the results of three games, one of which they scored more than enough to win if the pitching didn’t implode.

For people concerned about batting average: the Toronto Blue Jays were second in the AL in batting average. They also hit 162 home runs. We all know the end of that. White Sox were near the league average in batting average.

Seven qualifying batters hit over .300 this year. .316 was the batting title. It's just not how the game is played anymore.

People need to watch the Joey Votto clip explaining why. Furthermore, a .300 average without slug or OBP is worthless.

While they K a lot, they also take a lot of walks. Seems that it wouldn't me insurmountable to shift some of the thinking of the current roster to more contact instead of swinging for the fences.

Colson absolutely must do that, or he'll end up as an infielder Palka. This sub .300 obp stuff is ridiculous

The top three teams in batting average this season:

Milwaukee

Tampa Bay

Los Angeles

RISP? Milwaukee #1. LAD #3. TBR #4.

Tampa struck out the least number of times. LA 4th least. This is likely the world series matchup...

Getting hits and not striking out is still really important. I am also not sure why walking and getting hits are mutually exclusive things, either. Not every swing needs to be for the fences. The White Sox approach sucks.

You also have those four teams in the Top 8 in ERA...along with Yankees Red Sox Braves etc.

Also, Tigers in terms of their pitching and RS/RA should have been the playoff team from the Central.

Tampa bay's team is literally built for its ballpark. Just like ours. I want to see us be better with RISP but the approach is good. It needs tweaking. A strikeout is another out. And it's less destructive than a ground ball out. People need to accept that it isn't 2005 anymore.

can we get Adam Dunn to mentor Colson? To me that is who his North Star should be. Dunn was brilliant, in part, because of how patient he was at the plate. His injury in late 2012 deprived us of a potential 50 home run season.

Setting the MLB record for strikeouts in a game, twice, says otherwise. That doesn't happen if the "approach is good". Especially against Cleveland's pitchers.

It could also be a team pressing because they, for the first time, realize the magnitude of the situation. Those games are outliers

That's what coaches are for!

Also, in the last two months the White Sox have played 44 games. They struck out 416 times. This trend isn't just the last three games. It's been a problem for a while.

Teams figured some things out and the white sox did not adjust, that's my issue. Failed miserably

A ground ball doesn’t always lead to an out or DP. They can find holes.

anyone hear Venable during the game say something like, not much coaching went on between game 4 and 5, these guys know what they gotta do

El oh el

I understand the argument that a strike out is better than a ground out in double play situations.

But what about leading off an inning, every situation that there are two outs, man on 3rd with less than 2 outs, 2nd and 3rd with less than two outs?

You cannot make a blanket statement that a strike out is always less destructive than a ground out. I would have preferred that Mune hit the ball with the bases loaded....sometimes even pop ups are dropped....anyone remember Gordon Beckham??

Probably because they are doing what Fuller and Shomon preach. Good pitching will exploit their hyper aggressive philosophy.

There's basically only one situation where a strikeout is preferable to a ground out. A slow runner at first and a slow runner up to bat. Lol. Even in that situation, they still have to turn the double play.

The 2026 Whiff Sox. How disappointing.

Back in high school our coaches taught rudimentary skills to avoid striking out - Taking the first pitch to see if you can get ahead in the count, choking up on the bat, keeping your head down and eyes on the ball. trying to hit the ball up the middle or to the opposite field, or bunting when asked. Pete Rose would laugh at a team that struck out 21 of 27 outs in a game. He had his flaws but he sure knew how to hit the ball. He used to get all coiled up like a snake with his head turned to the pitcher and eyes looking for the ball. There have been other great hitters but I can't think of one that was a free swinger - just seemingly taking a hard cut without trying to look the pitch into the bat.

Vladimir Guerrero, Sr./Roberto Clemente

Don't tell me what you hit, tell me when you hit it. Ah Hawk...

A limited point I think. Yes, they cratered during the Cleveland series. But it’s only 1 series. They took it to 5 games without starting pitchers. They’re young, gonna make changes and improve the talent. The “ approach” can be tweaked with better talent.

I wonder if they thought the same way for the pathetic second half of Kolson.

The Sox probably guessed right how to get the most out of this lineup. It’s readily apparent. There’s a cost to everything
