What’s the nature of Colson’s back issue? If it’s a disc bulge, he could get a microdiscectomy in the offseason and be good as new.

I will say if Seya is willing to take a bit of a hometown discount to play with his bestie... I'd do it. I think in a few years, he'll be a full time DH as he's dealt with some knee issues in the pas

Joey Bart is still under contract. I imagine it'll be him.

“It’s just one of those things throughout the season; things kinda come up,” Montgomery said. “It’s just getting ahead of it so it doesn’t linger and get any worse. We’re looking to play long-term this season, so we thought this was the best thing to do.

“Yesterday, [it] felt a little stiff and kind of locked up. But as I got treatment and did some exercises, moving around, it felt a lot better. Today, came in, felt a lot better."

seems more like back spasms than a herniated disc

I think his struggles started with the back problems in June. Then he fouled off 2 pitches off his leg in a week in July. I'm sure those things didn't help, but I don't know if they had much to do with how bad he was in August and September. The late season struggles seemed far more mental than physical.

Bummer… herniated disc could be more easily addressed

Fair enough, was hoping that was a significant contributor. His approach needs to improve obviously, but if he had a disc issue, I’d be more confident that could be fixed.

Come on, he couldn't hit AAA pitching in early 2025. It's not his back. He has a flaw in his oinment.

He's a very streaky hitter.

Can carry a team or sink it.

He was also the best SS in MLB for a stretch in 2026.

After seeing Cam Booser pitch in high leverage yesterday. I thought if the Sox trade Colson to Milwaukee he will hit 45 homers with a .07% strike out rate, win a Gold Glove and be named the NL MVP.

Could be the script for The Rookie 2

Started at Oregon State

like Drew Rasmussen, Kwan, Madrigal Rutschman, Larnach, Conforto

"In 2017, Booser was suspended 50 games after testing positive for cannabis.[8][9] After making three appearances for Fort Myers during the season, Booser retired on November 20, 2017.[2] Booser returned to the Seattle area to work as a carpenter.[2][10] Missing baseball, he began to give pitching lessons in 2020, and found that he could throw a fastball at 96 miles per hour (154 km/h).[2]"

Can the Sox afford to outbid other clubs to get Sato patrolling in LF or RF? Probably not. Can Soxtalk work it's magic again and get Sato on the team? Definitely.

Just from a prospect perspective, I think Sato actually profiles a lot like Mune offensively. I think Mune has more power and plate discipline, while Sato has a slightly better hit tool. I thought Sato would be much better at making contact in NPB given he just won the triple crown, but his contact rates are only about 3% better than Mune's in NPB. That's far below (around 10% lower) Okamoto and Seiya Suzuki's NPB numbers. Just for reference, Okamoto made a ton of contact in Japan and even he struck out nearly 30% this year in MLB. It seems like Sato is better against velocity and off-speed pitches, so that may help his transition to MLB, but his mediocre plate discipline may limit his ceiling. Still, a guy who struck out nearly 27% of the time in NPB will most likely strike out at >30% clip in MLB. He might profile a lot like Okamoto, but just more in his prime with more power and better defense.

Turns out Getz wasn't wrong to get Booser, we just suck at developing pitching.

I would be a huge fan of making a splash here as well as a splashy move on pitching front (that could also include a Skenes trade). My absolute dream would be Skubal and Sato.

The Japanese players, generally speaking, are very disciplined. Even when adjusting to the league and going through their slumps… they do the work to get through it. He’d would be a worthwhile get assuming the details all worked out in coordination with the bigger plan.

I feel like when Colson is hitting, the Sox win games. I think that's probably the biggest argument to keep him. It's not how Vargas goes, how Mune goes, etc. It's how Colson goes.

It's almost like how TA was those last few years.

I'm trying to fathom where a Skenes trade starts. If you're signing Sato, you're shipping out Bonemer as the headliner with Braden and Antonnaci now on the table as possible secondary pieces.
