John Schriffen officially out, the search for the new PbP voice begins

Merkin mentions Karl Ravech, Connor Onion, and Wayne Randazzo here. Also says Adam Amin won't be the PBP guy but mentions he could be involved in some capacity, depending on the hire.

Onion is pretty good, but really young. I'd be a little afraid Stone would eat him up and spit him out. Randazzo seems like the right call to me.

I don't care what any media jock says, I can make my own call on this product I've been consuming for years.

Speigel was spot on in his critique. John was not a victim of sports talk hosts unfair criticism..sorry but he was just bad at that job. As speigel said ,John simply did not feel the game action unfolding in front of him therefore could not focus on his main mission.

All I ask is putting a professional baseball play by play guy in there. Stone will not be asked to go on silly tangents to appear engaged.

Randazzo seems to fit the bill.

I feel like the problem with Onion, and it’s not really a problem, is that he is becoming just as national as Benetti. The Sox are going to have to deal with his other responsibilities and it’s gonna look really bad(again) because they used that reason to oust Benetti and didn’t really care too much about Schriffen doing it until the end.

I also agree Randazzo seems the logical choice

On a side note it’s absolutely hilarious that the glam shot of Schriffen is with that black turtleneck looking like he is about to go to the mag mile shopping

I wouldn't say he was terrible. I would agree that it didn't feel authentic a lot of the time and felt forced or cringe. I think he genuinely wanted to connect with the fans and be apart of the Chicago White Sox. He just never really seemed to connect well with the team or even the city. Jon also didn't do himself any favors when he made Chicago media enemies at the beginning of his tenure.

You wouldn’t say he was terrible but then you proceed to explain rather well why he was terrible. lol

Spiegel was a Biiiaaatttcchhh for this. Kicking someone when they are down and not being man enough to share whatever he needed to share when Schriff was still announcing White Sox games.

There's always a catch isn't there.

Let him try to stop me....I'll be the guy Standing by the Cuban Comet cart.

The Cuban took a bit of a step back this year. They aren't cooking them long enough.

Schriffin worked cheap when nobody watched got what they wanted out of him. I liked his schtick but his PBP was awful.

I just want someone that will work all 162 (or at least most of them) and why I do not miss Benetti.

Randazzo or Ravech would be great with McKnight filling in

Yeah those Score guys are pathetic.

As for Schriff, he’s a nice guy. I wanted him to do well and probably listened to him with rose coloured eardrums, but I didn’t think he was as bad as people made him out to be. However if that’s the best I can say about him a replacement is a good idea.

Wasn’t that mostly because they wanted their homegrown Score guy Connor McKnight to win the job?

And Benetti was a Score guy as well. McKnight is terrible though, I can’t believe he’s under consideration

not everyone can do baseball

Since I've had to watch Sox baseball on MLB, I've rarely watched the Sox broadcast. It always seemed the opposing broadcasts did their homework. I learned more about the team that way.

So I don't really care who replaces him.

If you rarely watched the sox broadcast then how can you know what was talked about on the broadcast? Not trying to be jerk just trying to understand the logic here.

I didn’t realize McKnight was cut by The Score back in 2020 with perhaps the worst radio personality in history — Julie DiCaro.

It was the Mcknight issue it was how the white sox tenure ended with Benetti.....they were both SCORE guys

In fact, we did take it from the Brewers in that series. It was a sweep. 🤣

These oblivious Score loons should worry about being better at their own jobs that they don’t deserve before campaigning for another mediocre personality to get a job they don’t deserve either. At least Benetti was good out of that pile of Score crap.

His first call in was absolutely disastrous, I heard it. He did himself no favors that first season

McKnight is already a CHSN employee and obviously did a bunch of TV for them last year, he has to be under strong consideration.

I also thought it was mildly interesting that in his statement, Boyer said "this is the appropriate time to evaluate the direction of our broadcasts"

Going plural there could indicate they are also looking at the radio booth, and have a guy in Kasper that has plenty of TV experience.

Just given the history of ownership, plus them maybe feeling burned by trying an "outside" hire in Schrif, they go in-house with the new hire.

True, but he was viewed poorly by them before he ever even started. I’m not sure what he could have ever done to really get them to like him, and then he took it personally and it imploded.

It’s got to be either Randazzo or McKnight

Eh, I took that first call in as nobody knew each other, I didn’t feel their dislike for him until after that show. Nobody knew who Schriffen was when he got that job and it was a curiosity for everyone. Then he stepped in it, called for the Sox to surprisingly compete, and then talked s%*# during a game and it was over over.

After he talked s%*#, they never got over it. Which is hilarious considering the s%*# they talk daily and expect people to just take and move on

They’re schoolgirls.

Not sure if it is just all talk but Kasper has mentioned how he loves radio now and thinks it’s a perfect fit for him. But money talks…
