John Schriffen officially out, the search for the new PbP voice begins

Eh, I took that first call in as nobody knew each other, I didn’t feel their dislike for him until after that show. Nobody knew who Schriffen was when he got that job and it was a curiosity for everyone. Then he stepped in it, called for the Sox to surprisingly compete, and then talked s%*# during a game and it was over over.

After he talked s%*#, they never got over it. Which is hilarious considering the s%*# they talk daily and expect people to just take and move on

Yep, I remember this. Now both guys from this article are out of jobs. Speaking of tenuous job security, has Shane Riordan even gotten another gig yet?

So glad he gone!

Hopefully they can find someone who is or has been associated with the Sox or is a Sox fan.

At the very least, please get someone who knows baseball this time.

I also hope that AJ will be Stone's replacement someday when Stone has had enough.

At least bring him in when Stone takes his days off.

That someday will not happen as long as Jerry owns this team.

Riordan kind of killed his radio career. He thought he was bigger then what he is....

McKnight is already a CHSN employee and obviously did a bunch of TV for them last year, he has to be under strong consideration.

I also thought it was mildly interesting that in his statement, Boyer said "this is the appropriate time to evaluate the direction of our broadcasts"

Going plural there could indicate they are also looking at the radio booth, and have a guy in Kasper that has plenty of TV experience.

Just given the history of ownership, plus them maybe feeling burned by trying an "outside" hire in Schrif, they go in-house with the new hire.

I saw in a separate post literally everyone else is back, including Brook Fletcher. Stone is back, as is Len and DJ on the radio.

I guess the only thing I didn't see mentioned is pre and post game.

They’re schoolgirls.

It's a schtick. They do the whole, say outrageous things to get attention thing that they learned from the big guys, and try to make it work themselves. It rings hollow if it isn't authentic, which is the biggest problem with the Score. Everything is a hot take designed to maximize feedback, not an intelligent take made to explain something.

It’s got to be either Randazzo or McKnight

I am OK with Connor being the fill it. He's OK. He's vanilla, but he can manage to fill in for a weekend kind of a thing. I will even go so far as to call him Perfectly Fine.

The deal is the #1 guy should be better than Perfectly Fine. I don't care about #2 or #3 like that.

This. Look, the whole wildcard thing who will say anything is great until he makes a headline for burning down your own product. Plus with AJ seeming to burn those bridges, I am not sure he ever comes back, but who knows. He does seem to do a great job nationally where he doesn't have to say as much.

Looks like you are right. I did some searching and he has since made all of his social media private and has left the radio industry for now. He has been a manager at BLVD Steakhouse Chicago since May.

The Cuban took a bit of a step back this year. They aren't cooking them long enough.

Schriffin worked cheap when nobody watched got what they wanted out of him. I liked his schtick but his PBP was awful.

I just want someone that will work all 162 (or at least most of them) and why I do not miss Benetti.

Randazzo or Ravech would be great with McKnight filling in

I was only there for Pope night and it was still a great sandwich.....I did get it quicker than usual though. Kinda sad if quality is going down for not cooking it long enough.

not everyone can do baseball

Since I've had to watch Sox baseball on MLB, I've rarely watched the Sox broadcast. It always seemed the opposing broadcasts did their homework. I learned more about the team that way.

So I don't really care who replaces him.

I listen almost exclusively to the radio team and Len and DJ are outstanding imo.

Stephen Nelson should be the choice. Big White Sox fan and is currently the #2 Dodgers pbp guy when Joe Davis is out. Offer him the #1 White Sox job and I can't see him turning it down.

He put his foot in his mouth a lot and along with other issues kind of killed his career.

Maybe a result of being busier than they were prepared for?

Awww....that's a shame. Shane was such a good guy. NOT!

Karl Ravech rumblings on the internets?

The Schriff was definitely better in 2026 than he was in 2024 and 2025, when Brooks Boyer called him and Steve the best broadcast team in baseball.

He just didn't know the game well enough to be a 1 of 30 guy., he had to use props basically. Seems like a real nice guy. I bet if there was a 10 year old Sox fan living next door to him, he showered them in Sox swag.

“Better” in his case just means better than 6 feet deep. However “better” anyone would want to ascribe to his baseball knowlwdge (eh), flushed down the toilet with his home run calls and yeah buddys. Bro was a non starter.

I saw that and it feels completely out of nowhere.

People have no idea how much they hated him from the start

Anyone replacing Benetti would've been tough but they hired someone who wasn't qualified to do the job. That was always the biggest issue. Nobody on 670 or ESPn 1000 was unfair to John Schriffen and I followed it all very closely.

Yeah those Score guys are pathetic.

As for Schriff, he’s a nice guy. I wanted him to do well and probably listened to him with rose coloured eardrums, but I didn’t think he was as bad as people made him out to be. However if that’s the best I can say about him a replacement is a good idea.

The White Sox got rid of one of the best broadcasters in the country and hired easily the worst in baseball; intentionally derailing a stellar broadcast.

It's the appropriate time because Schriffen's contract expired. God forbid Jerry Reinsdorf pay anyone to not work for him.

True, but he was viewed poorly by them before he ever even started. I’m not sure what he could have ever done to really get them to like him, and then he took it personally and it imploded.

He could've been good at the job. He wasn't. It's on the White Sox for hiring him in the first place but this is market three. He's fair game for criticism.

Jon Greenberg floating the idea of David Haugh or Zaidman. Those would never happen, but funny to see Chicago media trying to pump up the prestige of their colleagues.

I said Zaidman would be horrifying weeks ago.

That voice… 🤢 🤮

Stick with the Blue Demons and Cubs, Mr. Monotone.
