John Schriffen officially out, the search for the new PbP voice begins

Featured Replies

Haugh this morning was like “ummm I have never even done pbp this morning” and I have to think ZZ devotion to the cubs would nix that immediately

Stephen Nelson should be the choice. Big White Sox fan and is currently the #2 Dodgers pbp guy when Joe Davis is out. Offer him the #1 White Sox job and I can't see him turning it down.

This is the correct answer

Zaidman would be like listening to nails on a chalkboard. No thanks. I would rather keep Schriff.

Karl Ravech rumblings on the internets?

His name was in one of the linked articles in this thread.

First think Karl Ravech does after he brushes his hair in the morning is put it on.

Its a shame that Bob Elson isn't still around. He would have been an excellent choice.

Ill take in his prime Harry Caray over anyone else. Especially if Piersall was with him. Greatest booth ever.

I was only there for Pope night and it was still a great sandwich.....I did get it quicker than usual though. Kinda sad if quality is going down for not cooking it long enough.

I will still get that before anything so I am not too upset about it.

I think Ravech would be a great hire.

The SCORE was talking about Haugh and Zaidman this morning. That is lazy take on Greenberg's part. Both would be a disaster.

Give me Jack McMullen. Please, please, please!!!!

  1. 2016 Oak Park and River Forest High School grad and baseball star.

  2. Die-hard Sox fan; huge Buehrle fan (as a lefty pitcher himself)

  3. Radio voice of Marlins

  4. Great voice

  5. Extremely charismatic

  6. Really sharp; stat master, knows baseball

  7. Young; could be a lifetime Sox voice.

To me, he's a cross between Benetti & Rooney.

Give him a listen, he's fantastic!

No he wouldn't. He was let go before the 1971 season because his style didn't fit the times then. What makes you think his quiet, laid back cadence would work today?

That's not a knock on him, his style was great for the time in the 30's, 40's and 50's but it would not come close to working today.

The guy on The Score that has shown interest in doing PBP is Matt Spiegel, when he isn’t jamming with Tributosaurus.

Looks like you are right. I did some searching and he has since made all of his social media private and has left the radio industry for now. He has been a manager at BLVD Steakhouse Chicago since May.

So in other words, being a steakhouse manager takes no industry expertise whatsoever. Learned something new..

I always found his style exciting. He would be the perfect play by play man on TV. He was my boyhood idol.

I love any suggestion that is "grew up a Sox fan." Give me an authentic emotion, bias and the homerism listening to games.

He’s an affable chap. Likes baseball, likes to laugh. I could see it.

Then go out and get some experience.

Put your time in doing minor league work like the majority without major league connections.

Earn your stripes.

A lot of people are unwilling to invest that time + low salary and effort required, all for the lack of a certain pay off.

Much more lucrative and better odds to get into politics when one considers the actual scarcity of positions open.

It's obvious you and the vast majority of fans today have a different opinion of "exciting."

Bob was as dry as watching grass grow. I listened to him and I've got games he did as well as highlights from him in my White Sox library.

Again that's not a knock on him, he's in the Hall of Fame and his style was perfect for that time but that time was literally decades ago.

There's absolutely no way in hell he'd be a good choice in today's society.

It's a schtick. They do the whole, say outrageous things to get attention thing that they learned from the big guys, and try to make it work themselves. It rings hollow if it isn't authentic, which is the biggest problem with the Score. Everything is a hot take designed to maximize feedback, not an intelligent take made to explain something.

Mike North and Steve Stone. A last hurrah for two old timers.

Would honestly prefer Will Ferrell imitating Harry Caray to that...which would get older than Bill Walton in a hurry.

Mike and Steve would be a lot of fun on the old airways.

Sports radio producer doesn't pay well today I'd imagine. If Parkins gets let go at Fox and gets an offer to come back at the Score, I bet He'd want Shane back and Shane would come back.

The Score is such complete garbage right now. No humor at all. Parkins was on Rahimi and Grote and he ripped into the morning show because they had a guy call in from jail and they didn't do anything funny with the call. They took his opinion and just said bye. Far cry from what it used to be.

Elson was supposedly more upbeat before he went off to WWII. After he came back he was sleepy with occasional outburts of life.
