Well, we at least hired from the right place.

I see Brewers, I'm happy. Unless they fired him because he sucked.

Seems like a good day to buy high on a Brewers scouting leader.

So after Shirley wasn't there talk of having a new structure? Sounds like we are largely keeping the structure we had.

Oh wait, this actually for the old Shirley position, even better.

EDIT: it is paywalled, would be interesting to hear any important quotes or note.

So it's pronounced ROW-FAY. Always a great idea to pluck from the Brewers. Seems good.

"Roffe most recently served as the Brewers’ Assistant Director of Domestic Scouting, a role he held for just one year..."

seems like a huge promotion, regardless of how his contract ended in Milwaukee...but hard to imagine someone in their scouting department being held in anything but the highest regard after their last couple of seasons and all their draft successes

Sources tell the Sun-Times that the Sox are expected to hire Matt Roffe to head up their domestic draft operations. Roffe has spent the last five years with the Brewers, and was promoted to be their assistant director of domestic scouting last November.

Roffe spent the past five seasons with Milwaukee, working his way through scouting operations before reaching his most recent position. The Brewers’ 2023 media guide listed him as their scouting operations coordinator.

His résumé includes experience across several areas of baseball operations. Before returning to Milwaukee, Roffe worked as an analyst in player personnel and pro scouting for the Arizona Diamondbacks from November 2019 through October 2021. That followed a baseball operations internship with the Brewers in 2019 and a baseball research and development internship with the San Diego Padres in 2018. While attending college, he also interned in MLB’s Statcast and labor relations departments.

Together, those stops give Roffe a background spanning research, technology and player evaluation. How he applies that experience to Chicago’s scouting department will be one of the more interesting parts of the eventual announcement.

2018 Wash University St Louis grad, so probably only 30-31 years old

I'm always in favor of hiring as many excellent, intelligent baseball people from winning organizations as possible.

White Sox hiring Matt Roffe from Brewers to lead scouting...

The White Sox have cited the Brewers as an organization to emulate, and their actions are backing up their words. The morning after the Brewers won their first World Series title in franchise history,

Good add on paper. Guess we'll see what he can do.

It's a big gig for him. This is an excellent hire. And the complete opposite of what the Hahn regime would have done

Yeah. We are going to start being poached from in the same way that the brewers and rays have. It's unfortunate but it's a sign we are doing something right.

Came from the world champs? Sold.

To be fair, everyone said the same when he poached Marco Paddy.
