What is the fastest recorded strike?

Featured Replies

A buddy and I were talking the other day and we both got to wondering this. What was the fastest recorded speed for a strike? I know I could probably find it someplace on the ol' 'net, but ya know, I figure one of you would probably know this one pretty quick, and it is a chance to show Hawk Harrelson that you DO know something about the game!!!

101.9 mph- Nolan Ryan.

There are stories about Wagner, I think, hitting 103 mph, but it was on a quick gun. I have never heard anyone "officially" topping Nolan.

not MLB, but i'm pretty sure anaheim minor leaguer bobby jenks has hit 103. shockingly, he's also out with arm trouble.

I think it is Walter Ray Williams but I'm not certian if it was for a strike or a spare.

In grabbing Walter Ray's pic (shouldn't he be in a NASCAR race with a name like Walter Ray Williams) I discovered the multi-talented PBA bowler is also a 4-time world and 17-time California Champion in Horseshoes?

I gotta ask

Is horseshoes a sport?

The horseshoes's doing all the work.

I believe Sam McDowell hit 103 MPH, and I know Eric Threets, SFG prospect, hit 103 MPH in EST a few years back.

Steve "LaLoosh" Dalkowski. No contest. Estimated to be anywhere from 103 to 110 mph occasionally while in the minors.

Ryan Express against the White Sox. Sam McDowell might have topped 100 on a few occaisions. Sandy Koufax. Walter Johnson.

Mark Wholers is said to have reached 103 during a ST game. Bunch of relievers topped 99-100 at least once, including Wagner, Koch, Farnsworth and Anderson.

People don't realize that speed tests have been around since 1913 - starting from the suprisingly reliable "motorcycle" test. Waaay before the radar gun they could gauge speeds fairly accurately.

Says 100.9 in the article Cheat posted.

I heard Sidd Finch went over 130 mph

That was Jennie Finch silly, she should break camp with the Brewers next season.
