December 17, 200421 yr Would you be singing the same song if the Sox are tied with the Twins on July 30 and don't have any money left to go get someone else? If Sox are tied with Twins July 30th after spending 6 million, then I'd hate to imagine our position in the standings without any FA signings. I simply feel 6 million (or whatever the figure) spent upgrading C,2B,or SP would benefit this club.

December 17, 200421 yr I feel the same way. Although I did not like RJ ending up in NY, I am calm now bcoz we wont lose all our good young players in the minors for him.
December 17, 200421 yr I feel the same way. Although I did not like RJ ending up in NY, I am calm now bcoz we wont lose all our good young players in the minors for him. Exactly. Too some people, they think that we would actually get something out of him. He is 42 years old and you never know when his f***ing arm will fall off.
December 17, 200421 yr ESPN article makes it seem like the thing that may be holding it up is Yankees giving him an extension and some "perks" like Suns tickets have to be resolved.... so since it only seems to be jammed up on money, I expect NY to get that resolved quickly
December 17, 200421 yr I'm just thanking god kenny wasn't stupid enough to do this deal... Made me night with this news... ACCEPT THE DEAL RJ! Thank you for not crippling our Sox with your bloated contract.
December 17, 200421 yr We just have to beat the Yankees and we have a clear path to the World Series f*** the Twins, we are really competing with every AL team. This sucks for us.
December 17, 200421 yr I'm just dreading another day off columnists and talk-show hosts ripping on the Sox for losing out on all these pitchers (KW did put pressure on himself by saying what he was pursuing though). This may sound odd, but I think the Cubs are getting off light for non-moves... they couldn't land Kolb, they didn't even make a run at Edgar (and I know they signed Nomar, but I think Edgar longterm is a good investement), and call me crazy, but the Cubs should have been in on the Hudson trade discussions. You're telling me they couldn't beat the Braves package with their hyped-up farm system?? that's all I've heard about for the last 3 f***ing years.... Wood Prior Zambrano Hudson Maddux would be insane... but the Cubs will get a pass

December 17, 200421 yr Exactly. Too some people, they think that we would actually get something out of him. He is 42 years old and you never know when his f***ing arm will fall off. We should be worried about every pitcher we get then.
December 17, 200421 yr I hope that was just a random order for their rotation because Hudson would be their ace. yeah it was random...
December 17, 200421 yr The Twins have lost Koskie, Guzman, not to mention ole Doug Mientospellitright ---- they are not the same team. That said, they are currently division champs, but we gad better keep our eyes on Cleveland. They just may be the team to beat! And if Detroit keeps out spending us they won't be far behind.
December 17, 200421 yr ok there r 2 diff stories coming out of az and ny az beat writer is saying rj is having second thoughts john heyman of newsday said its a go with some minor things holding it up. thanks espnews for this info
December 17, 200421 yr We should be worried about every pitcher we get then. right... since there's no tone to these posts I want to preface this question by saying I'm not trying to be a smartass or anything... I'm genuinely curious... OK, I see some of your points about how risky RJ was, and Clement too... but I would rather overpay for one of those two than lose out on everyone and run through the 5th starter fiasco again. So what is going to happen if/when the Sox run this team out on opening day? (other than spend some of the money for KW's security at SoxFest.) The team as presently constructed does not do a lot for me... I supported the Lee trade assuming KW was going to get a good starter for the rotation...
December 17, 200421 yr Wow, I am surprised the Dodgers gave up Brad Penny. Right now, the DBacks look like a very solid team.
December 17, 200421 yr With Ginter going to Oakland -- I'm really curious who we will get as the PTBNL. I thought it was reported that it was not a prospect, but rather someone on their roster. I've looked at it and there isn't much to be had -- I thought maybe Brady Clark. He's a left handed bat, supposedly a decent fielder, but.....yet another outfielder. Hey, heres a thought....maybe its Doug Davis????
December 17, 200421 yr I can't believe someone said the Dbacks looked like a pretty solid team. They are not that improved from last year when they lost 111 games
December 17, 200421 yr I can't believe someone said the Dbacks looked like a pretty solid team. They are not that improved from last year when they lost 111 games It's amazing what signing an injury plagued third baseman, an innings eating walk machine, a no-hit shortstop, a light hitting utility man, and trading your best player can do.
December 17, 200421 yr I think the Dbacks are potentially a "good" team. If Ortiz regains his old fastball, if Glaus can stay healthy, if Penny can stay healthy, if Greene has a decent season.................they could be "good"!
December 17, 200421 yr Yeah, any time you trade Randy Johnson for Brad Penny you're not really making much progress
December 17, 200421 yr I read on ESPN that Depodesta wants the Yankees to pay for part of the Vazquez 34+ million. He said that they have discussed three AND four team deals, but he had reservations on a deal getting done. Maybe we can sneak in and steal Vazquez.....send Garland to LA along with a prospect.
December 17, 200421 yr Yeah, any time you trade Randy Johnson for Brad Penny you're not really making much progress Penny>>> garland. Which is the pitcher we would have given up for johnson.
