I agree qwerty, it should have been at least 150. But overall, I love the addition. He has won a World Series before and could help Jon with theat winning mentality and he is good friends with Contreras maybe they will light fires under each others asses to inspire them to work that much harder. If you really take a second to think about, 4 million a year to possibly improve Jon and Jose, plus his stuff, it's a deal.

Good point. Miller has had serious injury problems, and is going to get paid more money than Hernandez. And Hernandez has pitched in many big games.

Ya I can see it now.  Sox refuse to sign Konerko because they are paying El Duque who may never pitch again 4 million a year.  This is after Konerko has another .275-.285 35 HR, 100 RBI season. 

 

I'll just hope to hell he helps them get the series this year cause I don't like giving him anything guaranteed next year.  Maybe have the 2nd year of the contract kick in if he pitches 100 innings this year.  Either way too much guaranteed money if this whitesox.com article is correct.

I don't think it's to much when the Lieber's, Wright's, Clement's are getting 7 plus and in the case of Matt 8 plus, when el duque is arguably better then these guys and some of them have injury risks also. They have his rights for 2006 also. They signed him to that deal to avoid arbitration this year.

I don't think he's saying Garland is quite the pitcher that these guys have been, however he's saying if you compare stats through a certain point of their careers that they're very comparable.

That's way too much! The guy didn't just avg less than 146 ip over 4 yrs. Two of the years topped out at 100 ip. Do the math, & you get about 125-30 ip.

 

No use crying about it. If this is true then that's if for the SOX. No Vazquez & no other starters. He might have a few mil left to get a solid utility player & an experienced C.

 

It's not so much the $ as it is the idea of the SOX overpaying. That's what

me the most. It's like the Bears spending close to 40M on a defensive secondary that has to be close to the worst in the NFL. It's sad because the line is good, the linebackers are good, but the secondary blows. That makes the team one of the worst in the league. Arggghhhh!

 

At least the seats will be forest green over the next two years. That's something I wanted since 1991.

Well the two year 4 mill is worth 4 mill a year. Thats what they are saying. Its what the score was saying. But I thought it was 4 mill a year and that was including the incentives or at least thats what the original posts made it seem.

 

He's better then Grilli, but then again he could get hurt and we'd be stuck with Grilli anyway. And no one is going to tell me Matt Clement or Odalis Perez are as prone to injury as El Duque. Those two have consistently thrown 180 innings over the past few years.

If had better consistency he should have avg'd well over 200 ip in that time. But he doesn't so he typically falls short. I question that mental toughness too. But, the dude is so very young and if you look at the stats these other guys put up at the same age or experience level, you'd realize that many of the Garland critics would have also been critical of these guys who went on to become studs.

 

I don't know if Garland's got "it". But some of the best pitchers in the game today hadn't proved the had "it" at similar points in their careers. I'm just saying, don't give this guy away for someone who will never be a stud, though he may be a better pitcher than Garland is today. Garland does have a chance.

We just payed 2 yrs/8 mil for Grilli to be our 5th starter most of the year.

 

And people say JR is cheap. We could have been paying league minimum for Grilli to be our 5th starter.
