Division Champs?

With additions such as Hermanson, Podsednik, Hernandez, and Pierzynski, is this the team that finally frigures out a way to beat the Twins and get us into the playoffs? Are there more moves that need to be done in order for the up and coming season to be successful or do think that we have done all we needed to this off season? :bringit

Are we good enough, yes, are are we going to that remains to be seen and until we beat the twins I won't bet againt Minny.

Chicago White Sox, 2005 Major League Baseball World Series Champions.

We've been good enough the past few years, IMO. We just haven't done it.

Bingo.

im excited, i think we've got what it takes this year and I'm gonna be excited to watch these sox in the world series this year...

we've got a good team. one thing we haven't talked too much about is how ozzie will be able to handle them. it's the team he wants and we'll see if he can manage a small ball team successfully. that and the question of whether or not dye and especially frank and the duke can stay healthy. if we stay healthy and ozzie can skip, we should win the division.

It seems like the Twins keep losing players and keep on winning..they lost AG, Hawkins, Guardado..now Koskie and Guzman this year..shouldn't they be gettin sucky already..sheesh..lose already..the Toons look pretty good, but can their rotation hold up..signed Milwood..maybe get better..They look like a force..

We gotta win, 1 lousy playoff appearance in the last 10 years, our run of rotten luck has to end...doesn't it

As of right now, this team is an unknown entity. It looks respectable on paper, but it's the type of team, that if things don't mesh, can go right into the crapper. Changes certainly needed to be made and I like what KW has done, but it has the potential to totally fail as well as succeed.

I think this group has a better chance of succeeding than the old group. The old group beat you by the home run. This new group could beat you in a variety of ways, like smallball, home run, and pitching even. I just think that this team has a better chance of not crippling under pressure like the past groups.

I concur with Señor Cero.

That's why they play the games ;)

I don't know. :D

the one thing the sox need to do is if we're not good, let it be known early so you can lose and get a high draft pick

I like the bullpen, I like the starting rotation, the line-up is decent, the defense has improved tremendously... I'm going to say the A.L. Central will be a 3 team race between the Indians, Twins and us. The Tigers are on their way, but i still don't think this year they can contend.

The keys to success this season are:

*Jose Contreas- Can we see more of the Cy Young and less of him throwing batting practice?

*Jon Garland- Can he finally win 14-15 games?

*Joe Crede- Can he rebound from an aweful season? He should use 2003's version of Konerko and 2004's version of Konerko of an example that it is possible to bounce back.

*Health Concerns- Injuries do happen, but it is important to that they are at a minimum. It will take awhile for Frank to get back to form when he returns from his injury. But how long will that take? Can El-duque pitch a full season? He hasn't done it since 2000. Can Jermain Dye play a full season? He has been injury prone the last few years.

**Most importantly can Posednick steal 70 again. And can he get on base more as our leadoff hitter, and can he improve on his .244 batting avg? IMO Posednick is the key to success in 2005. If he constantly gets on base, we will go long ways in '05.

We've had the best roster in the AL Central for the past 5 years. Unfortunately, they choked in the playoffs in 2000, 2001 was ruined by injury, and 2002, 2003, and 2004 the Sox pulled their typical loser routine and came up short.

I love the changes they've made this off-season, and I'm just hoping they can get off to a good start, get the fans to come out to the ballpark, and stay in the race the whole season. Then, just get into the playoffs and see if they can win a game. That's a major step forward if they can do that. Extra revenue, and hopefully an upped payroll in 2006.

And the people that think the Sox have any chance of winning it all are insane. They have 0 chance of winning the World Series in 2005. This is a 3-4 year process if KW and management do the right things, and if the players on the field play to win. 2005 is year 1.

I agree, I think they are a few players away from being a really good team. You cant have obvious holes and question marks in a lineup that you think would win the world series. All they need is a playoff birth, then one or two solid free agents, and a meshing of the team, and you can make a run.

I am really excited about the makeover the Sox have gotten in this off season. This is the best balanced team I remember since maybe 1983. They have speed, they have power, they have defense, and they have a 10 deep, at least, pitching staff. They should be the favorites, but after watching year of year of the Sox underachieving, the Twins are the favorites until someone else clinches the AL Central.

We definitely have what it takes to win the Central. It just depends if we choke down the stretch as usual. This could be our year. I havent been this excited about a sox team since... ever.

We have the horses but I agree with most of you that we have to prove it on the field because we have been in this position before. Frankly, given the past few seasons the Twins should be favored until we knock them off their high horse. :fight

Well, I was more excited about the 1984 team. We were coming off winning the division by 20 games and we had added Tom Seaver to the rotation. Things didn't go so well...

Win the division and get steam rolled in the playoffs. We know the drill and are damn good at it. Tag team for the Central for a while now.

If we even get to the playoffs we will actually have some real pitching unlike in 2000...

Eh, it really wasn't our pitching that let us down in the 2000 playoffs. Our offense decided to take 3 games off, and WE GONE. :crying
