January 26, 200521 yr "N. Nakamura put up for auction through posting system" http://www.japanball.com/news.phtml?id=2988 OSAKA, Jan. 25 (20:05) Kyodo Former Kintetsu Buffaloes president Keisuke As***aka said Tuesday the procedures to make seven-time All-Star infielder Norihiro Nakamura available to major league clubs through the posting system has been completed. Should he strike a deal, the 31-year-old Nakamura will become the fourth Japanese player to join a major league team through the bidding system, after Ichiro Suzuki (Seattle Mariners), Kazuhisa Ishii (Los Angeles Dodgers) and Akinori Otsuka (San Diego Padres). The system is one in which major league teams present sealed bids to win negotiating rights with Japanese players. If he receives an offer, Nakamura will begin talks with a club through his agent Dan Nomura. After the player's name and status is revealed to all American and National league teams through the Major League Baseball commissioner's office, teams have four days to post their bids and the highest bidder is given 30 days to negotiate a contract. ''Nakamura called around noon today asking that I take action for the posting system so I did it immediately,'' said As***aka after turning in the required documents to the baseball commissioner's office in Tokyo. Last month, Nakamura held open practice sessions in front of major league scouts in California despite being selected in the distribution draft to play for the Orix Buffaloes in 2005. Nakamura, an Olympic team member in Athens and Sydney, had also traveled to the site of baseball's winter meetings in a bid to draw interest from major league teams. He walked away from a free-agent deal with the New York Mets in 2002 and opted to sign a four-year with the Kintetsu Buffaloes, his team of 13 years which merged with the Orix BlueWave and became the Orix Buffaloes this off-season. This past season, Nakamura made 500 million yen and was the highest-paid Japanese baseball player, but was limited to 105 games and 19 homers due to injuries. He hit .274. On Nov. 3 he announced his decision to play overseas, saying that the deciding factor was the merger. He joined Kintetsu as the fourth draft pick in 1992 and won two crowns with 39 homers and 110 RBIs in 2000. A year later, he drove in 132 runs to capture the Pacific League RBI title for the second straight year and helped guide Kintetsu to its first league title in 12 years. Here are Nakamura's career stats in Japan... http://japanesebaseball.com/players/player.jsp?PlayerID=55 Remember, Kenny was somewhat interested in Nakamura in December... "Notes: Sox view Nakamura workout" http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb...s_cws&fext=.jsp Just some food for thought. I'm not even sure how much money Nakamura is looking for but he would be a nice backup incase Crede busts again in 2005.
January 26, 200521 yr Author sorry, not happening <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I never said it was happening. But I'm guessing that we will see this guy in the MLB in 2005.
January 26, 200521 yr Qwertys opinion means tons...you can't even weigh it it means so much, because no scale of that magnitude exists. This coming from a self proclaimed Jabronie... QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 12:02 AM) How about your opinion means s***?
January 26, 200521 yr QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 06:02 AM) How about your opinion means s***? how about, eat a dick. :banghead lets hear what kinda comebacks you can come up with now, buddy. :finger ok ok ok... that was kinda harsh, but so is telling someone their opinion means s***... so i step back and retract my eat a dick statement, its off the books, so you can spit it out and rinse your mouth out now.
January 26, 200521 yr I'm going to unlock this with a general warning to all to drop the name calling... Anyways, I doubt the Sox are interested, as with this posting system you have to bid for the right just to negotiation with the player. I think the Sox are about capped out right now, and they have someone at 3B.
January 26, 200521 yr Crede should be fine at 3b for his money and defense. Getting his avg. over .260 [which should happen pretty easily] would be enough for what he gives the sox, power and glove wise. If he got hurt, or tanked big time and hadn't done anything at the AS Break, then maybe.
January 26, 200521 yr I don't think Crede's defense should even be worried about. He is solid defensively. His offense is the only concern. I think Crede will be better than last season and hopefully put an end to this constant b****ing and worrying.
January 26, 200521 yr Their issue now is determing who is the utility infielder....not getting another question mark third basemen. If Uribe needs a day off, who plays short? Iguchi? i thought his shoulder injury required they move him to second? Maybe he could still spot some games. I guess we'll find out.
January 26, 200521 yr Valdez would probably be the choice as a back SS...and Uribe could probably be the back up 3b.
January 26, 200521 yr There are several reasons why the sox will not pursue. Crede, is cheap and still has time , at least two years to prove he is capable. The second is Josh Fields whom we drafted first and is on the fast track. If he is any good he should be ready in three years when Crede will start making more money. The Third is the bidding process. We will not pay money just to negotiate, then pay more money to sign. Those are the reasons. Qwerty is right.

January 26, 200521 yr Just some food for thought. I'm not even sure how much money Nakamura is looking for but he would be a nice backup incase Crede busts again in 2005. Agreed, it would be a nice thought, but I would think the guy would want a full time thing, which we can not offer because of Crede.. Plus we have a back-up..in Uribe, lets just hope that he was not a 1 year wonder.. which is my second worse fear.
January 26, 200521 yr Maybe it is just me, but I would like more than 6 people on the team who can speak fluent english.

I wonder if these players are now looking towards us as a comfortable place to play though. It could be possible that we are this guy's first choice. PLus I wouldnt mind getting rid of crede, not because of his stats, but because he is a boras client, and if josh fields does not step up, we will be out in the cold on a 3b. I dont know, just a thought.

January 26, 200521 yr He'd be too expensive of a backup. Who knows how much money a team will have to pay just to talk to him. And I'd imagine he probably wants upwards of $6 million + per year.

I think the Mets offered him a 2-year, $7 million contract a couple years ago and he was close to accepting it but he turned it down when his Japanese team offered him alot more money.
