March 20, 200521 yr http://www.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/asiapcf/03/2...k.ap/index.html Geoffrey Brazier, the skipper of a pleasure cruiser, was snorkeling with two tourists when he was attacked Saturday. He died instantly off the Abrolhos Islands, about 400 kilometers (250 miles) north of the Western Australia state capital, Perth, police said. No one else was injured. "The 26-year-old man was bitten in half by the six-meter animal and death seemed to be instantaneous," police Inspector George Putland said. ... Government fisheries officer Rory McAuley said authorities wanted to kill the shark, suspected to be either a great white or tiger, to safeguard the public. I hate when they always try to hunt down the killer afterwards. How effective could that possibly be?

How effective could that possibly be? Flassoxjim posted a similar "Shark Tears Man In Half" story several months ago. I believe the attack also took place in Australia. Hunting the shark is an action taken to calm the public. Don't know why, not is if this shark was a renegrade mutant.

March 21, 200521 yr Sharks have always seemed to be a problem down here especially during the past few years. Like TRU I wouldn't go too far out in the ocean either.

Hell, while were at it, lets kill off all of the bears, lions, tigers, oh my, all the nasty critters that will keep me from going to all of the places I should be allowed to go to because I am the MIGHTY HUMAN BEING, HOMOSAPIEN, LIVING INCARNATION OF THE SUPREME BEING GOD HIM(HER)SELF!!!

You tryin' to steal my gig as resident Earthhugger around here or something, Kid? Whassup wit that?!? Seriously, the lack of sharks in the oceans these days has caused lots of top down ecological balance issues. From an exploitation standpoint, sharks are giving us pretty cool biomedical compounds like squalamine (Anti-tumor/anti-angiogenic agent in Phase I/II human clinical trials) and AE-941(Neovastat) that also has intriguing anti-tumor/anti-angiogenic properties. And not that it does much to calm deep-rooted fears in the human psyche, but if you think about the sheer number of recreational water users compared to the number of attacks you're safer in the ocean than driving down the highway. You are also more than 100 x more likely to drown than you are to get bitten by a shark.

Nah, animal and critter lover. My wife still thinks I should have become a vet or something to do with animals. I have a HUGE love for the critters, and for some reason they seem to like me. I also hate ignorance and comments that smack of "stupid human arrogance".

You can call me ignorant all you want, but I despise Sharks and wouldnt care if they were eliminated..
