June 27, 200520 yr I think I'll see it because I had to suffer through the original in my Information Media class 2nd semester and I might as well see the Speilberg version.
June 27, 200520 yr QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 04:25 PM) Saw a preview of it at the last movie I saw. Looked overdone. Agreed.

The original George Pal version is a friggin' classic man, absolute classic!
June 28, 200520 yr I'll give it a shot. Only because I have nothing better to do for 3 of the 4 days I'm off this weekend. I think I can hole my nose and ignore Tom Cruise enough to enjoy what looks like a pretty decent "aliens invade and waste Earth" movie.
June 28, 200520 yr QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 05:20 PM) :headshake Kids these days. The original George Pal version is a friggin' classic man, absolute classic! No way, too much over the top romance in that movie. I like classics like Shane and what not, but the acting just wasn't up to par.

Ach, screw that. The scene with the guys waving the white flag before getting toasted, and the scenes with everybody huddled in the church knowing they're about to be killed... and then the alien machines just start to shut down because the aliens had no immunity to terran viruses... that is CLASSIC When War of the Worlds, Time Machine, TOBOR, or Day the Earth Stood Still came on Family Classics hosted by Frasier Thomas back in the day it was the definition of must-see TV for sci-fi kids.
June 28, 200520 yr If it involves massive destruction on film, I'm there. I'll go check it out this weekend but I will agree with what others said. Looks a bit overdone..overglamorized if you will.
June 28, 200520 yr QUOTE(YahtzeeSox @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 04:22 PM) Gotta see it. Hope they don't screw it up. Exactly my feelings. I the original, and it will piss me off if they f*** it up. This was one of my all time favorite movies.
June 28, 200520 yr Tom Cruise alien/cult member really makes me not want to see it, but I'm sure I'll rent it when it comes out.
